ANA Treatment Centres is a UK based rehab located in Portsmouth, England. Since 1998, ANA has offered detox, residential and step-down outpatient services for men and women. With programming based on the 12-step philosophy and best practice approaches, ANA provides a safe environment that requires accountability and the desire to live a life free from drugs and alcohol.
Accommodations and Food
The inpatient program can accommodate up to 29 clients, which includes the detox and primary sides of the building. The facility is very spacious and comfortable with a home-like feel. For the most part, clients share bedrooms with one other person, though in some cases there are private bedrooms. The campus has several different buildings. They use some for therapy and other programming events, while others are for family members and loved ones during their visits.
Professional chefs prepare all meals on site. They create meals from a set menu, however ANA is able to accommodate dietary restrictions. The food is delicious and made from the freshest and healthiest ingredients.
Treatment and Staff
Upon arrival, individuals undergo a physical and psychological assessment and then continue to an individualized detox. The detox process at ANA can last between 10 and 28 days. Once that process is complete, clients move into the residential phase, which typically runs anywhere between one month and 12 weeks. A medical doctor and registered nurses supervise the entire detox process. They make sure the client is comfortable and safe as they withdraw from harmful substances.
Once in the residential track, the staff assigns each person a treatment “buddy.” This is someone who has gone through the primary stage of treatment who can offer support and guidance. In addition, clients work with a primary therapist throughout treatment that they have individual therapy sessions with once or twice during the week. This therapist and client work on their goal plan for treatment and assess the client’s progress on a weekly basis as they move through the program.
The primary stage of treatment has daily group therapy sessions and peer groups. There are also several workshops during the week that are led by staff and clients. These workshops cover relapse prevention, conflict resolution, family dynamic and how to manage cravings. Clients attend AA, NA and CA meetings on a daily basis and also have a step work workbook and written assignments. Throughout the residential program clients are also learning several life skills that carry through to the step down programming.
Therapeutic approaches include CBT, DBT, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). There are also some holistic treatments offered, like art and music therapy.
The staff at ANA includes addiction therapists and medical professionals. In addition, a good number of the support staff are either former clients of the program, or have gone through a similar treatment program for drugs and alcohol and now have dedicated their lives to helping others.
Extras
There is a free aftercare program that clients can attend once or twice a week, along with a family program that includes therapy and education.
During the inpatient phase of treatment clients participate in a number of recreational activities and outings at the facility like the annual bake off, picnics and team sports.
