Port St. Lucie FloridaThe Basics

Founded in 2015 in Port St. Lucie, Florida, Amethyst Recovery Center provides outpatient substance abuse and addiction treatment as well as dual diagnosis support for men and women suffering from chemical dependency. Located on the Treasure Coast, Amethyst Recovery provides safe and structured sober living for clients concurrently enrolled in their Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and basic outpatient program.

Founder Ian Treacy—who himself has long-term recovery—derived the facility’s name from the amethyst crystal, known for its powerful healing properties and has historically been used by healers to treat alcoholism and other addictions.

Accommodations and Food

The facility accommodates 50 PHP clients across five furnished, gender-specific houses which include fully equipped kitchens. Residents have around-the-clock monitoring by live-in staff. All rooms are double-occupancy. Those enrolled in the PHP are not permitted cell phones or Internet and all activities are supervised, including evening outings to 12-step meetings, the gym or park. Clients are responsible for their own food and are taught grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking and proper nutrition skills. Residents rotate chores and in small groups prepare food for the entire household.

Sober Living facilities for those enrolled in the IOP track accommodate 50 clients in eight houses. IOP is a step down from PHP and clients are given the opportunity to use many of the life skills that they developed while enrolled in PHP. Residents enjoy more freedom at the IOP level and are permitted cell phone and Internet usage. Additionally, they are allowed use of their cars, though transportation is provided for those without. IOP residents are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation.

Finally, sober living accommodations are available for those enrolled in basic outpatient care. This final phase is ideal for those transitioning from more intensive care to independent living.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to admission, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment and must have completed detox. Clients receive individualized treatment plans. Those enrolled in the PHP track are typically attending treatment for between 38 and 45 days, while IOP is between 30 and 60 days. PHP clients attend 40-hours of treatment in the course of a week while those enrolled in IOP attend nine. Basic outpatient clients attend just one 90-minute one-one-one session. The PHP and the IOP both consist of group and individual therapy, life skills workshops and chemical addiction education. Individual therapy is scheduled per each client’s needs. Attendance of  12-step meetings is required during treatment. IOP clients are also required to look for work, adhere to a curfew, perform household chores, work the steps, attend meetings on their own and—if not working—participate in community service.

At Amethyst Recovery Center, evidence-based modalities including Seeking Safety (for women), processingCBT, DBT and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) are used. Group topics include relapse prevention, trauma, anger management, co-occurring disorders, coping and life skills. Groups are both co-ed and gender-specific. Group numbers range, but typically there are between six and 12 clients per group. Bio-sound therapy is and EMDR are also available for appropriate clients and psychiatric consultations are scheduled as needed. Medication management is available for those with co-occurring disorders.

There are approximately 12 staff members including a Master’s-level Certified Addiction Professional (CAP), a psychiatrist, licensed counselors, Bachelor’s-level therapist, bio-sound feedback technician and administrative support.

Extras

On March 7, 2015, Amethyst Recovery will launch the Alpha Series for clients seeking a faith-based approach to recovery. Groups will be incorporate a Christian-focused component, utilizing stories from the Bible without the dogma.

In Summary

Amethyst Recovery Center is a comprehensive substance abuse and addiction treatment program with safe and structured sober living for those at all levels of recovery. This unique program provides sober housing for those enrolled in PHP, IOP and basic outpatient programs. Clients have a good balance of intensive substance abuse treatment that incorporates evidence based methods and the 12-steps while building life skills and developing autonomy and independence.

  1. They don’t care about you it’s all about money to ian they flash there money around getting rich on sick people I can’t stand Chris Lyons either him and his girl drink heard she use to sell heroin to clients like I said just a way for addict to get rich off innocent people and to pay that much for a halfway how is that helping us

  2. I arrived at Amethyst in September of 2016 and I just celebrated one year of continuous sobriety! I cannot even begin to credit them enough. They helped guide to sobriety. It was obviously my choice to use the tools Amethyst gave me but they sure did an amazing job of showing me what tools I had at hand. I still participate in their alumni program to this very day. The one thing that Amethyst did differently than all the other programs was they actually gave a shit about me. Their staff went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and happy every single day. The facility is beautiful especially the new one they just opened for detox and residential. I tell anyone who reaches out to me for help that Amethyst is the place to go if you want to get sober and change your life! Thanks for helping save my life Amethyst Recovery Center!

  3. Amethyst is honestly amazing the staff goes well beyond their job descriptions to help individually and as far as iop goes it’s the furthest iop from a flop I’ve found in south Florida so far

  4. This place saved my life period. I went to amethyst 3 times the first two I was not ready to change my life but each of those times I went back out I continuously had staff from amethyst calling me and checking on me, I have never seen that with anyother treatment center. They never gave up on me even when everyone else did. They truely care. People are going to find negative things to say about anything, if you got haters you must be doing something right ain’t that right ally ruge? but if you show even an ounce of willingness amethyst will fight for you. I moved to Florida from Minnesota and I now have a whole nother family here. I’m currently in amethyst half way and am doing better than I ever have. I’d recommend this place to anyone.

  5. Amethyst saved my life.! When first coming into Amethyst Recovery center I was beyond closed minded to the set up of their housing and the fact that I lived in a house rather then at the actual recovery center. I felt I needed to be in a locked down fascility 24 hours a day. Amethyst showed me ways to deal with everyday life in small amounts at a time, gradually preparing me to move on to the next stage, halfway and IOP. The crew that was picked by Ian Treacy, of loving, caring facilitators, therapists, techs and all other staff for sure made wanting to remain clean and sober a hell of a lot easier. I am beyond grateful for the unity Amethyst has built among many recovering addicts and would suggest giving recovery a shot in their care to anyone struggling.

  6. When I walked in the doors of Amethyst, eight months ago, I was a hopeless shell of my former self and could not manage even the most menial of everyday tasks. I had lost any and all sense of purpose I once had in life. Today I can hold a job and have found that the everyday tasks that once left me baffled are now second nature. It’s a beautiful thing that I can wake up in the morning and not have to rely on any substances to get my day started. The staff at Amethyst took a sincere interest in providing me with the tools that are required to recover from addiction to drugs and alcohol. They identified my personal needs and worked hard to facilitate an environment that would allow me to grow as an individual. Through Amethyst Recovery Center I gained a support system that has my best interest at heart to this day. Amethyst saved my life. Amethyst was perfect for me. 7. I came to Amethyst broken and on the verge of death. I had been to several facilities in Florida and never gained the tools or spirituality I needed to stay sober. I skeptically joined the Alpha Series while at Amethyst and it has forever changed my life! The knowledge and tools I gained there were so helpful and this is the longest I have ever been sober. They allowed my sponsor to come meet me to do step work so I had a stable foundation to step down into IOP. The staff went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and all of my needs were met. Thank you Ian and everyone at Amethyst for giving me my life back!

  8. I just got done reading the reviews and I am really taken back by the few negative comments left on here. When I attended Amethyst, I was thoroughly impressed by the genuine support I received from all the staff. I had never been part of such a loving community that were willing to sit and talk with me when I was going through all these emotions. My therapist was always available when I requested extra time with her. The staff understood on a personal level what I was going through because they were in recovery and had been where I am at one point in their life. Now I am part of the Alumni group and we are always doing fun sober activities together. I have one of the best group of friends I call my sober network and while I was in Amethyst I gained so many skills to combat the times I have urges to use. I have never been clean for this long and I have Amethyst to thank. They helped me through every step of my journey and I owe them my life.

  9. This place saved my life. They spent hours reassuring and accommodating my mother and I. I have been to over a dozen rehabs but I have never have a facility make me feel more at home and a part of the family than Amethyst. I am so thankful I stumbled on this place and would defininetly recommend them to a friend or loved one!!

  10. What an amazing place! Totally gave me my life back. The activities and therapy were top notch and I’m so grateful for them. Thank you Amethyst!

  11. Amethyst is probably the same as most however if you have insurance they rip the company off and set you up to have to come back because they can get double or tripe the money from insurance companies. Some people can go and pay cash 12000-20000 and get to stay longer and get special treatment but if you have insurance and you don’t want to stay at their facility they just send you off with no help and refuse to help you with treatment elsewhere . They care about their money to go deep sea fishing and travel around flaunting their money !

  12. Eric McAlister on

Amethyst is alright but it’s nothing special. It is not the “go to place”. The therapists are a joke. They used to go deep sea fishing and paint balling but now they switch from arcade movie and more groups.
It is group’s 7 days a week, meetings 7 days a week. No down time. 3 calls a week for 10 min each. Many techs that have worked there actively used and multiple have given the clients prescription medicine like seroquil and nurontin.
They claim to teach life skills but they just reach you to make a resume and the way they teach you how to get groceries is by giving you a piece of paper naming off good nobody even eats and you jave to choose them but you have complete freedom at the store.
They lunch they get catered there is disgusting cheap processed food but if you throw a for they will but you Jimmy jons. They try to get the trouble makers to act right by brining them with Duncan coffee and fast food.
Tom Edwards the clinical director and Pam Springer who is a partial owner pick favorites and choose who they will gove chances to and who doesn’t get chances.
They had the clients vote to either keep or kick out 2 boys who relapsed. Shouldn’t they have thier stuff together enough to do that themselves? Everyone voted for them to gey kicked out but they kept them anyway so why bother?
The houses are small and packed
Not clean at all. The uarsa are riddled with cigarettes and trash in the back yard lines.
They half way house are more like trap houses , no joke. I’m awefuls neighborhoods and are awfully disgusting.

The worst part is that if you refuse to go to group ( where we should all hae the right) they have you go in group and sign in the sign in sheet then you can walk out. Fraud…

They pay for their favorites to be flown home but if they do not like you even if you complete you must find your own way home.

I could go on for days but the point is amethyst is just a money out, it’s all about the money. There are far better places to go to. I have been in the php 3 times and the out patient half way house 2 times all through amethyst and a a few times in other rehabs so I know every thing about amethyst. So if you have any questions message me at 419- 379- 1213 and i would be more than happy to answer any questions if you decide to go there or are thinking of going there.

Ian and Jarret are really amazing but sadly and I wish it wasn’t this was but everyone else who works there is awefuls. The nurse is the best person i knoe but the doctors are a joke. I have seen 2 people get stripped of thier meds and thrown into seizures and sent to the hospital.

They let certain people be on certain meds like seroquil lunesta Ambien and gabapentin but they must keep it a secret and that is wrong.

I could go on about their ethics for days but out of respect for Chris Lyons I will leave it at that.
