American Indian Health Service of Chicago Review
The American Indian Health Service of Chicago (AIHSC) is a non-profit organization that provides primary healthcare, mental and behavioral health and community health services at their location in uptown Chicago, Illinois just north of Wrigleyville. The facility provides individual, couples and family therapy as well as an outpatient program for alcohol and substance abuse.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment begins with a phone call to schedule an hour-long intake session and evaluation where clients go over their addiction history and their goals for treatment with a counselor. Frequency of individual therapy is also discussed during these intake sessions, as there is no fixed number of individual counseling sessions clients must attend. Typically these are scheduled once a week, though many attend once every other week as well.
The counselors at AIHSC do encourage attendance and involvement in 12-step programs, even holding two meetings on-site at their location on Thursday and Saturday. AIHSC is also in the process of adding group therapy to their services as their client list continues to grow.
There are two counselors at AIHSC, both of whom are female. One is a licensed clinical psychologist who works part-time and sees about 15 people per week. The other counselor is an LPC who works full time and sees approximately 25 people per week.

AIHSC is dedicated to serving American Indians, though no one is turned away on the basis of their heritage, financial standing or any other limiting criteria. Anyone who shows up for help is welcomed.
