Always Hope in Malibu Review

Always Hope in Malibu offers sober living for those recovering from chemical dependency in Malibu, California. The beautiful home has an acre of land that includes a covered patio draped with flowering plants, purple wildflowers, shrubbery, a fountain and landscaped lawns. Besides recovering alcoholics and addicts, some clients are healing from eating disorders, have been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital or have undergone wilderness therapy.

Accommodations and Amenities

The house includes a spacious living room, game room with a pool table and kitchen. Always Hope has an eight-bed capacity. Residents live in private or semi-private bedrooms with attached bathrooms. The rooms are huge, with high ceilings. They are furnished with queen-size beds and some even have fireplaces. Each room has a private deck. The house is within walking distance from the beach and shops in Malibu.

While residents are responsible for purchasing their own food and prepare their own meals, they often collaborate on meals and eat family-style in the dining room.

Rules and Regulations

Since Always Hope caters to a wide variety of clients, each person who comes to live at the house works with the staff to develop a recovery program to suit their specific goals. Those who need transitional care attend Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or outpatient treatment at Oceanside Malibu. IOP is typically five days per week, Mondays through Fridays. In addition, clients meet three times a week for one-on-one sessions with the program director, a CADC. Always Hope in Malibu strongly encourages 12-step participation. There are several AA meetings on the premises and clients are also assisted with transportation to outside meetings, as well as sponsors.

Residents are subject to random drug and alcohol testing and an on-site house manager provides constant supervision. Residents receive relapse prevention education, nutritional counseling, peer support, job training sources, medical and/or psychiatric referrals. They are also are taught basic skills such as balancing their checkbooks, making appointments and completing daily tasks.

The out-of-pocket cost for 30 days ranges between $6,000 and $10,000. The staff of six employees includes the program director who is a CADC, the house manager, a sober coach, a MFT, resident counselor, and facilitator.

Extras

In addition to life skills, staff is available to help residents apply for college and look for work.

Residents participate in a variety Malibu beach activities like paddle boarding and surfing. They are also taken on fun sober outings to movies, shopping and community events.

For those who can afford a safe, luxurious place to settle into a new routine after rehab, this is a truly beautiful location. While the house offers a sense of privacy, caring staff is always close at hand to make sure that residents don’t isolate or fall into old patterns.
