Altoona Detox and Inpatient Treatment Center Review
Based out of Duncansville, Pennsylvania, Altoona Detox and Inpatient Treatment Center is one of many Pyramid Healthcare facilities in the state. It offers both detox and inpatient treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
The facility is co-ed and has a total of 155 beds, 27 of which are designated for detox. Residents are placed in gender-specific, dorm-style rooms with twin beds and basic amenities; each shared with one other client. Three meals a day are provided by the in-house chef, with dietary restrictions generally accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients go through an initial intake and assessment to help staff develop an individualized treatment plan. Those in need of detox will do so before continuing on to an inpatient program. In general, treatment includes individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices, such as CBT. Though daily schedules may vary, each begins with time for breakfast and daily chores before a quick break and a transition into small groups. The remainder of the day is broken up into more group sessions with 12-step study, lunch, intermittent breaks and educational sessions. Evenings are more flexible, used either for studying, a ROPES Course, music therapy or downtime before evening reflection. Once merited, clients can also attend off-site 12-step meetings.
Staff consists of LPCs, CADCs and a range of additional Bachelor’s and Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Though not yet completed (as of publishing), the facility is planning a 45-bed expansion to its inpatient unit, scheduled to open in early 2017, and also plans to introduce some specialized treatment programs that are currently in development. Because Pyramid Healthcare is such an expansive organization, clients can also seek out outpatient and sober living services as needed.
In Summary
In all, Altoona Detox and Inpatient Treatment Center offers all-inclusive inpatient care for clients with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Treatment includes evidence-based practices and 12-step support with a good balance of structured and unstructured time. For those in the area in need of an affordable inpatient program complete with detox, Altoona Detox and Inpatient Treatment Center is worth considering.
