Alternatives Professional Counseling, Inc. is located in Olympia, Washington and provides assessment services as well as outpatient treatment programs for adult men and women. Treatment is based on Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT) with both basic outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). All treatment is evidence based with clients participating in both group and individual therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Those in treatment at APC first receive an alcohol and drug assessment; this can be either court-ordered or voluntary. After meeting with an intake counselor, an individualized treatment plan is designed that typically consists of group therapy, individual therapy or a combination of both. There are two outpatient tracks; the basic outpatient track requires attendance of one group and one individual therapy session per week, while the IOP meets for three hours in the evenings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Treatment at APC uses MRT as well as aspects of the 12 steps. Counselors recommend all clients attend outside AA/NA meetings while participating in treatment. Due to the individualized nature of each track, there is not required number of meetings clients must attend. Additionally, each person must participate in group sessions that cover relapse prevention, anger management and parenting skills (when applicable). The facility also caters to clients who have had issues with domestic violence, and often clients who are in the substance abuse outpatient program also participate in a domestic violence group concurrently. All the programs at APC are run by LPCs.
Extras
Aside from the above, the facility also offers a family program which is individualized according to each client’s needs. This option is available to all family members and partners of current clients. Treatment can consist of individual, couples or family group counseling. There is also aftercare available to those who have completed initial treatment. Those wishing to continue with treatment attend either a group or individual therapy session once a week for an hour.
