Accommodations and Food
Clients in detox or residential treatment stay in the 250,000 square foot hospital building that offers private bedrooms with reclining beds, private bathrooms with showers, flat screen TVs with on-demand channels and a sofa. All the rooms at this facility are handicapped accessible and spacious. The newly constructed building provides a childcare area, cafeteria, lounge areas and family resource center with computers, books, magazines and comfortable couches and chairs. All food is provided and prepared on-site. In general there are a few options offered daily from the menu, and à la carte dining in the cafeteria is also available
Treatment and Staff
An in-person assessment is performed at the facility where an intake counselor carefully reviews each client and develops an individualized treatment plan. If detox is the first step in rehabilitation, the clients are admitted and are cared for 24 hours a day by medical staff. This process takes anywhere from three to seven days, depending on the substance the client is detoxing from. From there if the client is moving on to 28 day residential treatment, they still have 24 hour access to medical staff and begin to work with their therapists on treatment goals. This stage introduces the clientele to the 12-steps, has frequent group therapy sessions that focus on relapse prevention and psychoeducation. Topics include the disease of addiction, common triggers and coping skills, anger management and relationships with family and spouses.
There are also holistic treatments integrated into the programs that can include exercise, acupuncture and meditation practice. Therapeutic modalities are evidence-based and include CBT and EMDR. There are also programs specifically tailored to those with co-occurring disorders that involve medication management services and follow-up care. The staff at Alta Bates includes a multi-disciplinary team of medical and clinical staff. This consists of Master’s-level addiction therapists, physicians, LPNs, psychiatrists and psychologists.
Extras
There is an in-depth family program that offers group therapy twice a week and one year follow-up care. There are also aftercare groups offered four times a week for a year, and alumni groups weekly. Graduates of the MPI Chemical Dependency Treatment Services programs also have access to an alumni Facebook group.
