Portland OregonAcadia: Allied Health Services East Portland Clinic Review

For nearly 10 years, Allied Health Services East Portland Clinic has provided Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts in Portland, Oregon. Allied Portland offers treatment plans using methadone, Suboxone or Subutex and is located near the Portland Airport, a short distance from the Columbia River. Allied East Portland requires clients to participate in group and individual therapy while receiving their medication doses.

Allied Portland is a member of the Acadia treatment network, which operates a number of outpatient and residential facilities throughout the United States and United Kingdom.

Treatment and Staff

Prospective clients are pre-screened over the phone. If they’re suitable for treatment, they come to the clinic for an in-person assessment. After clients are assessed, they and Allied Portland East’s treatment team decide which course of MAT they’re best-suited for: methadone, Suboxone or Subutex. Clients are then given a dosing schedule which includes a plan for applying for take-home doses once the client has successfully participated in several weeks of treatment.

Clients must attend group therapy throughout the entire time they’re receiving MAT. During the first phase of treatment (which typically lasts 60 days) they must attend group therapy twice a week. After 60 days, they can reduce attendance to once a week and then step down to once a month if they continue to have clean drug screens. Clients also meet with a counselor for individual therapy at least once a month.

Group therapy uses CBT to help clients develop coping skills and handle triggers. Groups are led by addiction counselors with the CADC credential and usually have fewer than 20 participants. Group topics include grief and loss, anger management and wellness and recovery. Gender-specific groups for both men and women are available, as well.

Counselors address co-occurring disorders in individual and group therapy but refer clients in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support to nearby mental health facilities. Clients are also encouraged to attend peer support meetings while in treatment, such as AA/NA or SMART Recovery.

Allied Portland East hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line.

Extras

Allied Portland East offers weekly parenting classes to which clients can bring their children. After clients have completed MAT, they’re encouraged to schedule check-in or regular sessions with their primary counselor for aftercare.

In Summary

For nearly a decade, Allied Health Services East Portland Clinic has provided the Portland, Oregon community with MAT for opiate addiction. With several weekly therapy groups that address issues such as grief and anger management, Allied Health Services East Portland is able to offer clients a community of support and learning as they conquer their addiction.
