Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Centers: Pearson Hall Review
Pearson Hall is an inpatient program under the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center umbrella of substance abuse and addiction services. Neighboring ADATC’s Zukoski Outpatient Center, both programs are located in Alabama’s largest city, Birmingham. Founded in 1983, PH offers detox services, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and a short-term residential program.
Food and Accommodations
The accommodations at PH are basic but comfortable. Men and women are housed in separate facilities and all share a double occupancy room. Each client gets their own twin-sized bed, dresser and a shared desk. There is a common area on the first floor where clients attend meetings as well as a lounge with a TV and comfortable sitting area for socializing.
Meals are prepared three times a day and consist of healthy, simple American-fare like cereal or toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and a meat and vegetable dish for dinner.
Treatment and Staff
PH offers medically supervised detox services and upon successful completion, clients begin the inpatient treatment program. After a thorough assessment, the client and their counselor develop an individualized treatment plan that implements CBT.
Although all plans include individual and group therapy and family therapy clients are also required to be involved in a 12-step program, attend educational lectures, receive nutritional counseling and attend self-help groups. The frequency of each type of session and the topics covered in therapy vary depending on the individual. Counselors also provide continuing medical evaluations and case management and alter treatment plans accordingly as clients progress and develop in their sobriety.
The staff at PH consists of LPCs, LSWs, LPNs and LCDCs.
Extras
In addition to an extensive substance abuse treatment program, PH also offers aftercare in the form of weekly group meetings as well as a variety of other services to clients and the community. Mental health evaluations, referrals and crisis interventions for situations of domestic and sexual abuse are available, as are community outreach programs such as sexual health counseling and educational seminars on addiction and chemical dependency.

Incorporating the 12-steps and CBT, clients receive a well-rounded and thorough course of evidence based treatment. PH aims to treat each individual as a whole and help them reach their recovery goals. Beginning with detox services, men and women also have the option to step down to outpatient treatment once they have completed primary treatment.
