Lufkin TexasAlcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas Review

The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas has been serving the community of Lufkin, Texas, since 1978. This facility provides outpatient substance abuse and behavioral health services to adolescents and adults with both therapy and elements of the 12 steps.

Treatment and Staff

All clients go through a thorough screening process in order to determine whether or not they are eligible for the outpatient programs provided at ADAC. Depending on the outcome of the intake assessment, clients are assigned to a primary counselor.

The adult treatment programs require clients to commit to attending four weekly group sessions and two individual therapy sessions per month. Groups are two hours in length and one-on-one sessions are an hour. Groups are based on the 12-step philosophy and use CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), EMDR, DBT and exposure therapy to treat trauma, anxiety and PTSD. There are also group sessions for relapse prevention and coping skills. The group sessions vary in size, though on average the staff-to-client ration is a maximum of one-to-14 and a mix of men and women. ADAC encourages clients to attend at least one outside AA/NA meeting per week in addition to the treatment they’re receiving at the facility.

The adolescent program is designed for young people between the ages of 12 and 17, and are similar to the adult programs though they rely heavily on family participation throughout treatment. Family members benefit from frequent check-ins with the counselor and take part in therapy sessions with the client.

Typically both programs last for between eight and 16 weeks. Both the adolescent and adult programs are led by caseworkers, LCDCs and prevention specialists.

Extras

If the assessment results demonstrate that the client potentially may need residential treatment or have co-occurring disorders, ADAC offers referrals to other local treatment centers. Additionally, DUI services are available for court-ordered clients.

In Summary

The staff at the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas treats clients with the belief that substance abuse and addiction are potentially fatal diseases, and that their clients should not feel shame for seeking help. The outpatient program is basic but offers a range of evidence-based treatment methods and programs. For men and women in Eastern Texas seeking affordable outpatient care, ADAC is an affordable and effective option.
