Al-Con Counseling Associates Review
Al-Con Counseling Associates of Greensboro, North Carolina, is an outpatient treatment facility with programs specifically geared towards those who are seeking treatment after a DWI. Treatment involves assessment services as well as group therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Those who have been convicted of a DWI offense must, by North Carolina law, obtain an assessment to reveal whether or not receiving treatment for drug and alcohol use is required. Those who come to Al-Con Counseling Associates for the required assessment speak with an intake counselor for up to two hours to determine the best course of action.
After treatment is decided clients can be placed in two levels of care. One is the 16-hour education program which usually takes place over a weekend or a couple of weeks, depending on what best suits the client’s schedule. This program is designed for those who are first time offenders who must complete the course in order to get their driver’s license back. These classes cover the dangers of driving under the influence and the impact it has on themselves and others.
If the client is a repeat offender, the court recommends it or it appears the client may in fact be struggling with addiction, they enter the 40-hour outpatient program. This entails two-hour group therapy sessions twice a week for about ten weeks.
If it appears either of those two options are not best suited for the client, or if after attending either of these programs it seems like a client needs additional care, the facility can offer referrals and resources for more intensive treatment programs such as residential treatment.
Group therapy is a combination of evidence based methods like CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as psychoeducation discussing relapse prevention, coping skills, and what the disease of addiction does to the brain. Though the treatment itself is not based on the 12 steps, counselors at the facility do suggest clients attend off-site AA or NA meetings (though they are not required to). The staff at Al-Con are made up of caseworkers and therapists, all with backgrounds in addiction.
In Summary
For those who have gotten a DWI and need of treatment, the programs offered at Al-Con are a good fit. Though those who attend Al Con are likely not doing so by choice, the staff here do their best to make the most out of difficult situations and get their clients’ lives back on track.
