Opened in 2009, Airmid Foundation and Counseling Services is an outpatient substance abuse counseling center in East Orange, New Jersey. Located 20 minutes west of New York City, Airmid is easily accessible by public transportation and caters to all types of adult clients—including those with co-occurring disorders. Airmid represents the vision of two local community members who have worked in treatment in the Essex County area for over 20 years. Their goal is to provide an affordable, personalized recovery experience for every client. Airmid offers primary care, intensive outpatient program (IOP) and medication management and a sliding fee scale is available.
Treatment and Staff
Airmid provides highly individualized treatment plans. Where outpatient care is deemed sufficient, it is offered as primary care. For those requiring detox or residential treatment, Airmid makes referrals to other facilities and recommends partial care and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) upon completion.
Treatment plans may include partial care, which involves group sessions five days a week from 9 am to 2 pm; IOP, which is three days a week from 9 am to 12 pm; and outpatient, which requires attendance one or two days a week. Treatment plans and lengths are tailored to each individual, and group therapy sessions are not 12-step focused. Classes are also offered relating to relapse prevention and health education. Individual therapy with a licensed therapist is available by appointment.
Airmid specializes in treating clients with HIV and offers specialized HIV education classes. They also provide psychiatric assessment and medication monitoring, as needed, for clients with co-occurring disorders. Drug and alcohol screenings are provided for clients who are court-ordered.
Staff includes an LPC, two LCADCs, two CADCs, an APRN and several interns from universities throughout New York and New Jersey. The staff members supervise groups, monitor medication and assess clients.
Airmid offers a family program that consists of family and couples therapy. An eight-week parenting certification course is also offered for two hours on Wednesdays for $70 per session. Additionally, a 10-week anger management course, which meets every Friday for one hour, is available, for $35 per session.
Airmid Foundation and Counseling Services provides affordable outpatient care for a variety of clients. They specialize in treating clients with physical and mental health complications in addition to drug and alcohol addiction, including those with HIV or needing dual diagnosis support. There are many facilities in the New Jersey area that offer addiction and substance abuse treatment, but Airmid’s high-trained staff and focus on underserved populations sets them apart.
