Affinity Counseling and Treatment

Vancouver WashingtonAffinity Counseling and Treatment Review

At Affinity Counseling and Treatment clients are offered outpatient services for chemical dependency. The facility is located in Vancouver, Washington and caters to those who are self-referred as well as individuals who are court-ordered into treatment. There are both basic outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) available as well as alcohol and drug educational services.

Located on the north bank of the Columbia River, the city of Vancouver is just over the Washington state line from Oregon, and only 17 miles outside of Portland.

Treatment and Staff

Potential Affinity clients undergo an initial bio-psycho-social assessment which typically takes about an hour. Those in need of medication are given referrals for psychiatric care.

While CBT is the primary treatment method, counselors also use Motivational Interviewing (MI) during individual and group therapy sessions. Clients are taught to set goals to work towards while counselors monitor their progress. 12-step participation is encouraged as support for treatment and in certain cases counselors may require clients to attend weekly AA/NA meetings.

The IOP consists of group sessions three times a week for a total of eight weeks. Groups meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm. Those in the basic outpatient track participate for 12 to 26 weeks depending on their diagnosis and typically attend one weekly two-hour group session.

Depending on the individual, clients also attend an educational group meeting on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 pm or a relapse prevention group at the same time on Thursdays. The educational group focuses on addressing the negative affects of substance abuse and on teaching the addiction-as-disease model. The Monday group is discussion-based and covers anger management, coping skills, family dynamics and vocational goals. Individual counseling is offered once a month.

Affinity’s therapeutic staff consists of two CADCs who lead groups and provide one-on-one counseling.

Affinity also offers an eight hour alcohol and drug information program that takes places on the first and third Saturday of the month. The class is for those who have been charged with a DUI or other drug related offenses. Focus is on providing individuals with the necessary tools they need to avoid future substance-related legal problems. The class also gives clients a chance to openly share their stories.

In Summary

Affinity Counseling and Treatment offers traditional outpatient services with a few different track options depending on the severity of each client’s case. Still, group therapy sessions are kept small and the programs are flexible and affordable. Whether clients are seeking treatment independently or are compelled through the judicial system, Affinity Counseling is a good option for individuals who do not need a comprehensive inpatient or detox services.

  1. At first it seemed to be going well but then after being in the program for six months I had taken a sedative my doctor has been prescribing for years. I dont take it very often but did before one of the classes because of family issues. I had some kind of a strange reaction that has never happened before. I tried to explain to the counselor that that had never happened before but she didnt want to hear it she was convinced I needed in treatment I think because of her past history of being a meth user and having her children removed from her care because of neglect not to mention the many many other issues she had as a heavy addict of countless drugs by her own account and at one point homeless. Yes these are the people Affinity Treatment Vancouver has running this treatment center. I tried to explain that not only do I not need to go into impatient for thirty days ( I had six months clean and counting ) but I was unable to because my family relies on my income. I wasnt going to stop working and have them homeless because this women wanted to make a point that didnt need to be made shes in charge and nobody was going to question her authority. I watched countless people come and go most people I talked to felt treatment here was not helpful at all some said it was an expensive joke. So if you would like to go to a treatment center ( and I say that laughing ) were you wont be helped and can throw away A LOT of money call them they would be happy to GET you.
