Adult Well-Being ServicesAdult Well-Being Services Review

Located in Detroit, Adult Well-Being Services has been providing outpatient services for substance abuse and mental health issues since 1953. While detox is not available, clients can come to this facility for medication management, group and individual therapy, and drug and alcohol education. Through the application of evidence-based techniques and the 12 steps, this rehab helps sobriety and mental stability become attainable.

Treatment and Staff

Adult Well-Being Services offers a variety of services for substance abuse and mental health issues. Clients can receive individual counseling for substance abuse and mental health issues from a therapist. Psychological evaluations and medication management are also available. Interventions can be arranged by loved ones for those who need help getting into treatment.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) meets three times a week, for three hours at a time, while the outpatient program meets once a week, for three hours. Both programs involve a weekly individual counseling session, as well as group therapy that focuses on relapse prevention, trauma, boundaries, introduction to the 12 steps, coping skills, processing and anger management. CBT and DBT are used in both a group and individual setting. The group sizes fall between 10 and 20 clients at a time and length of treatment depends on the individual. While attending 12-step meetings such as AA/NA is not required, clients are strongly encouraged to integrate a recovery fellowship into their routine. The 12 steps are discussed in detail during group therapy.

The staff includes psychiatrists, therapists and counselors.

Extras

Family involvement is seen as an important part of recovery. Clients and their family members can participate in a family program with their primary therapist. During this time, boundaries, communication and coping tools can be discussed.

In addition to providing a variety of therapies, this facility offers drug and alcohol education. These classes educate clients about the dangers of substance abuse, as well as the addiction-as-a-disease model. Coping tools and life skills are also discussed. HIV/AIDS prevention and education classes as well as urine drug tests are also available.

In Summary

Adult Well-Being Services offers affordable, open-ended outpatient care that uses traditional talk therapy and education to rehabilitate clients. With an emphasis on the 12 steps and a strong mental health component, those who are struggling with spirituality and mental health can be helped. Overall, this straightforward, no-frills program provides a solid foundation for recovery.
