Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP)Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) Review

With locations in Mesa, Glendale and Phoenix, Arizona, the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) is a flexible, outpatient-based organization providing treatment for adolescents struggling with addictions and co-occurring disorders. The company was founded in 1991 and offers both basic outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) with psychiatric oversight.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment to help staff members determine their needs. Detox is not available but those in need of those services can be referred to nearby facilities as necessary. As the program is aimed at younger clientele ages 12 to 18, all treatment plans include lots of participation from parents. Though outpatient plans are typically more flexible, IOP meets at least three times a week for three hours per session. IOP lasts for 10 weeks.

All plans include individual, group and multi-family therapy sessions with staff psychologists. Though evidence-based practices are used, the treatment approach is eclectic and the specifics may vary depending on client and practitioner. Some methods include CBT and DBT. Group sessions cover topics like coping skills, addiction education, emotional processing, relapse prevention and conflict resolution. While some staff members are certified to address mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, ASAP does not deem itself a dual diagnosis program. Throughout treatment, all clients and their loved ones are expected to attend 12-step and Alanon meetings, respectively.

The staff at ASAP consists of state-certified psychiatrists and psychologists with backgrounds dealing specifically with addiction as well as LCDCs and LPCs.

Extras

Those in need of aftercare can continue programming at a stepped down rate or get referrals for further treatment as necessary. Both court-ordered and self-referred clients are welcome to attend ASAP.

In Summary

The Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) is a flexible and affordable treatment option headed by a team of qualified psychologists and psychiatrists. Though not a dual diagnosis program, all clients attend treatment sessions rooted in evidence-based practices with concurrent 12-step participation and extensive family support. For those in the area looking for an affordable option, the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) is worth considering.
