The Addiction Recovery Center Review
Established in January 2016, The Addiction Recovery Center (also known as The ARC) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is a medically-supervised detox and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that specializes in addiction with co-occurring disorders. Although all are welcome, The ARC exists as part of the continuum of care offered by Vizown, a nearby residential substance abuse treatment facility for women.
Founded by Dr. Julio I. Rojas, a PhD psychologist and LADC who specializes in trauma-informed care. Rojas is also a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
Accommodations and Food
The nine-bed boutique facility is located inside a larger clinical rehab in downtown Oklahoma City. Beautifully decorated modern bedrooms offer comfort and the amenities of a hospital without feeling too clinical. Rooms are private and include bathrooms and a small sitting area. An on-site chef cooks meals with vegan or vegetarian options available upon request.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to admission, perspective clients undergo an assessment, medical consultation and psychiatric evaluation. Based on this information, counselors then develop an individualized treatment plan that consists of group and individual therapy, as well as EMDR, if necessary. Clients are also encouraged to participate in nutritional education and attend on-site AA/NA meetings.
For clients who need detox, duration can vary from several days to weeks but the average stay is 10 to 14 days. During this time, clients receive medication management as well as Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) if needed.
While the IOP is open to all, it also serves as the last step in the recovery continuum for Vizown. It consists of three group sessions a week for three hours each— Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Groups are offered in morning, afternoon and evening to accommodate work, school or family commitments. The ARC combines common evidence-based treatment methods, like DBT, CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), with alternative approaches such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and trauma-informed addictions treatment.
Besides Dr. Rojas, there are approximately five employees at The ARC, including a registered nurse, psychiatrist who can prescribe meds, LPCs and Master’s-level LADCs.
Extras
Graduates are offered with ongoing outpatient treatment as aftercare, which is scheduled to suit their needs.
