Founded in 2007, ACTS Recovery Homes in Austin, Texas, offers sober living for men and women in five gender-specific houses located in scenic residential neighborhoods. The homes provide clients an intimate ambience with a family-style environment, while staying clean and sober. The organization’s name, ACTS is an acronym for Active Commitment to Sobriety, and dedication to the 12-steps is expected from all of their clients.
Accommodations and Amenities
ACTS Recovery Homes offers four homes for men, and one for women, each accommodating approximately eight clients. While amenities vary, all of the houses include four bedrooms and two baths. Clients are paired in furnished rooms, which include twin beds and a dresser. The Aspen Street home for men includes bedrooms with oversized closets, hardwood and tiled floors and a kitchen with granite counters. Additionally, Aspen Street has a large grapefruit tree in the backyard, where residents can enjoy fresh grapefruit for breakfast. Smoking is permitted in the backyard of each house.
Amenities include free Wi-Fi, digital Cable TV, long distance telephone service, a house computer with high speed internet, paper products, laundry soap, laundry facilities, house cleaning supplies and coffee. Additionally, all residents must provide their own personal hygiene items. Each residence has a live-in house manager.
Accommodations and Amenities
At ACTS Recovery Homes, an ideal resident works an honest 12-step program. All residents must attend 12-step meetings, work with a sponsor, perform household chores and be active in their recovery protocol. Being present at the house meeting every Thursday is mandatory.
During the first 30 days, clients must be working or attending school. Since all residents must be out of the house between 9 am and 5 pm daily, those who are not working or in school, must perform regularly scheduled volunteer work in the local community. Clients who are caught inside the house during those times are subject to performing extra household chores or staff securing volunteer work for them.
At ACTS Recovery Homes, clients are subject to random drug and alcohol screenings. Individuals testing positive are subject to immediate eviction. While guests are allowed, residents are responsible for their actions. Those who have guests visiting too frequently may have their visitation privileges taken away. The curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
