Action Recovery Group Review
Based out of Ogden, Utah, Action Recovery Group is an outpatient treatment facility for drug and alcohol addiction founded by Rick Visser—the program director who has also been sober for 28 years. Visser opened the facility after leaving Ogden Regional Medical Center where he worked for 26 years as a counseling supervisor. Visser incorporates many of the tenets that he helped develop during his time at Ogden Regional to the program at Action Recovery Group.
Treatment and Staff
Several different phases of treatment at Action Recovery Group are available including detox and intensive day and evening treatment tracks. Detox is offered on an outpatient basis only and provides Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using Suboxone, Naltrexone, Vivitrol, Campral and Librium. To keep costs down, hospitalization is avoided as much as possible, but those in need of more intensive care during this phase are referred out.
Intensive day treatment is similar to a traditional Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), meeting six days a week for the entire day and focusing on developing life skills. Sundays are a free-day during which clients are encouraged to spend time with their families or to work on spiritually re-centering. The intensive evening program mirrors day treatment in format but is less of a time commitment.
Treatment includes group and individual therapy, mindfulness training, emotional processing, relapse prevention and drug and alcohol testing. All tracks use evidence-based methods including CBT as well as 12-step integration. Additionally, holistic methods are incorporated (such as mindfulness meditation).
Staff consists of 15 to 20 counselors, many of whom are in recovery themselves. Credentials include LCSWs, Registered Nurses, MDs, ACSWs, Nurse Practitioners and Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
After completing treatment, Action Recovery Group clients may enroll in a long-term continuing care program which serves as aftercare. These groups meet once a week for accountability check-ins and relapse prevention sessions. Aftercare generally lasts for 12 months following completion of treatment, though it can be extended as needed. Free clinical assessments are also offered.

The programs offered are affordable and intensive yet offer some flexibility with scheduling and incorporate traditional therapy and the 12-steps.
