Access Counseling Group IncAccess Counseling Group, Inc. Review

Access Counseling Group Inc, (ACGI), located in Plano, Texas is an agency that provides substance abuse treatment and alcohol education. ACGI offers step-down care, including Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and outpatient programs, as well as education courses for DWI/DUI court-mandated clients. ACGI’s staff fosters a lively, close-knit workplace where their primary purpose is to promote goal-oriented treatment. The facility uses evidence-based practices in therapy; they do not follow any 12-step programming. NRT Laboratories, a subsidiary of ACGI, offers drug screening and testing services on-site for court-mandated clients and others upon request.

Treatment and Staff

Before treatment begins clients undergo extensive assessments and evaluations. Staff then develop individualized treatment plans, though they also encourage clients to be proactive in designing their own plans as well with specific, achievable goals. Because all programs are catered to each client, the length of PHP, IOP and outpatient tracks varies on a case-by-case basis.

Adult and adolescent PHP is available in a clinical setting. Clients attend day treatment for three days to a week, with an average of three times a week for three hour sessions each time. Treatment typically lasts for about eight weeks. Clients attend individual and family therapy sessions on a bi-weekly basis, alternating between the two for each week of treatment. Outpatient has an average length of about 12 weeks, with clients attending individual and family therapy in the same manner as IOP.

Therapy includes CBT, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), recovery coaching, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Individual and family sessions focus on creative and integral solutions to interpersonal relationships between clients and their families, in addition to dual-diagnosis support. Help staging interventions is also available when necessary.

A DWI Education Class (First Offender Program) is also available and requires 12 hours of classes over three days. The required education for DWI Intervention (Repeat Offender Program/ROP class) is 32 hours in length, spread over 15 sessions. The Drug Offender Education Program requires 15 hours of classes over five days and is offered monthly. The Alcohol Education Class (MIP, Minors) MIP, MIC and DUI Offenses requires six hours of classes for two days, three hours each day. Clients must pay in full to reserve spots for the classes. After clients complete these courses, they receive certificates of completion.

Staff at ACGI include the Clinical Director and CEO, Irene Little, who is an MFT/LCDC, a DWI Education Instructor, case managers, interns fulfilling practicum hours and three licensed therapists, two of whom double as CADCs.

Extras

NRT Laboratories provides drug testing and screening for court-ordered clients. NRT also provides at-home drug testing kits for clients and members of the community.

Counselors and case managers have an exceptional knowledge and sophisticated system of referrals for clients who need other treatment centers in Texas. If a client requires more intensive dual-diagnostic support, for example, staff will refer him or her to treatment centers with co-occurring disorder programs.

In Summary

At ACGI, how long clients remain in treatment depends on their personal progress. Individualized treatment plans are of utmost importance here, and staff are willing and able to help clients every step of the way. Referral services give clients the opportunity to choose the best treatment possible for them, even if those services are not available at ACGI.
