Since 2006, Access Behavioral Health Services, Inc. has been providing behavioral health counseling to adults and children in Louisville, Kentucky. No group therapy is offered. Those in need of co-occurring disorders support have access to on-site psychiatric medication management. Treatment and Staff
At ABH, the frequency of therapy is determined by an initial clinical assessment. Those in need of dual diagnosis support are referred to one of the on-site psychiatrists. After the assessment, clients are assigned to a counselor who they work with to develop an individualized treatment plan. These plans vary depending on the needs of each client, though typically they include meeting with a counselor at least once a week for an hour long session.
Upon beginning treatment at ABH, clients work with their counselor to set treatment goals. Sessions are then catered towards achieving these goals, though counselors also focus on providing intimate talk-therapy assistance using evidence-based techniques like CBT and DBT. Most counselors at ABH specialize in treating addiction with a focus on coping skills, life management, relapse prevention and the underlying psychological processes that lead to addiction. Counselors can also provide career counseling to those seeking employment or higher education, as well as referrals to local peer support groups.
There are also counselors on staff who have extensive experience with treating adolescents. Adolescents seeking counseling at ABH are assigned to work with one of these counselors who focuses treatment on childhood trauma, abuse, gender issues and school related stress and anxiety. Counselors aim to teach children basic problem solving skills meanwhile providing a safe place to openly discuss issues pertinent to their lives.
Counselors at ABH have a variety of specialties that include treatment of individuals dealing with alcohol and drug addictions, gender identity, and mental health issues. There are also two LCSWs who use expressive therapy methods like play and sand tray therapy. In total there are seven LCSWs, one licensed MFT, CSWs and three psychiatrists on staff.
