Acceptance House Next Step Program Review
Acceptance House Next Step Program is located in Miami, Florida. While the house is a sober living residence, clients are required to participate in a transitional care at the facility’s sister program, Acceptance Counseling Services.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Spanish-style gender-specific houses have a 28-bed capacity, and typically there are 12 residents on-site. Clients are housed, in groups of four, in two bedroom apartments. The fully-furnished apartments include wooden floors and large windows providing ample sunlight. Each apartment includes a living room with dining area, a spacious kitchen and two bedrooms. The furniture is new, and includes leather couches, dressers, dining room tables and a fish tank.
The kitchens are stocked with cooking utensils. Residents without vehicles are transported to the grocery store. All clients are expected prepare their own meals, and sometimes dine together.
Rules and Regulations
Those who live in Acceptance House are required to take part in the outpatient or transitional care programs at Acceptance Counseling. Both programs include one weekly individual session and one group session that focuses on relapse prevention. In addition, residents with co-occurring disorders meet with a psychiatrist on a monthly basis, for medication management. Length of stay varies per client.
The house utilizes a 12-step approach and residents attend meetings, work with sponsors and complete their steps. Transportation is provided for off-site meetings and there are three weekly in-house meetings. An 11 pm curfew is observed, and residents are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Other protocol includes a morning meditation and a weekly house meeting. Residents are provided vocational support and guidance.
Staff includes Greg Rice, director of operations and Roberto Perez, Master’s-level counselor and spiritual mentor. In 2011, Perez received a Presidential Citizens Medal from President Obama.
Extras
Acceptance House is close to the beach, where many residents go on a weekly basis. Besides a weekly barbeque and beach outings, other regular excursions include museum visits, educational trips and shopping events.
