Founded in 2012, Acceptance Counseling Services, an outpatient substance abuse and addiction treatment facility is located in Miami, Florida. Their sister program is Acceptance House Next Step Program, a sober living house where many of their clients reside. While the drug rehab is fairly small, they offer extensive services to their clients and amenities that include free transportation.

Treatment and Staff

Acceptance Counseling Services offers all its clients individualized treatment plans and provides referrals to those requiring detoxDual diagnosis support is provided, because the counselors believe that substance abuse and co-occurring disorders frequently go hand in hand. The adult outpatient program provides three levels of care, including a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and basic outpatient care. Each program length varies per client’s needs. On a weekly basis, the PHP track has a 25-hour schedule, IOP is a nine-hour program and outpatient is two hours. PHP clients meet from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm Mondays through Fridays, while IOP clients meet from 9 am to noon Mondays through Fridays. On a weekly basis, the outpatient program meets from 6 to 7 pm on Tuesdays.

Acceptance Counseling Services utilizes evidence-based practices, specifically DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBTEMDR for clients dealing with trauma and schema therapy, which helps clients terminate self-defeating patterns in their lives, are also incorporated during treatment as needed. All tracks include group therapy, educational classes and individual therapy with a CADC once a week. Group and educational topics include relapse prevention, anger management, healthy relationships, communication skills, decision-making techniques, nutrition and meditation. Clients have the option of attending AA/NA meetings, which are offered three times per week at Acceptance House. In addition, they are provided transportation to 12-step meetings in the local community.

The staff includes a CADC, a Master’s-level primary therapist, Master’s-level social worker, Master’s-level counselor, a psychiatrist and Oreo, the rehab’s dog who was recently rescued from the streets of Miami. The staff psychiatrist provides evaluations, as well as medication prescriptions and medication management for those with co-occurring disorders. Master’s-level counselor/group facilitator Roberto Perez received a Presidential Citizens Medal from President Obama in 2011. In addition to facilitating outpatient groups, Perez provides spiritual mentoring to Acceptance House residents.

Extras

PHP and IOP clients are offered free housing at Acceptance House as part of the program.

Music therapy and art therapy is provided. Yoga is also offered, with the belief that spiritual discipline is a powerful tool for recovery.
