ACC Recovery House is a non-profit that operates two men’s recovery homes that are affiliated with the faith-based outpatient rehab Absolutions Counseling Center in the serene suburbia of Montgomery, Alabama. With a great team of counselors trained to help individuals recover from substance abuse, the environment ensures the residents a safe and productive sober living experience.
Accommodations and Amenities
ACC Men’s Recovery House provides accommodation in two beautiful houses. Each is in close to the other which creates a nice sober community for its residents. The homes are furnished, clean, comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances. There are also large common areas and free laundry facilities. Residents have access to Internet with certain restrictions. Public transportation is nearby for those fun days of group outings.
When it comes to meals, clients are expected to shop and cook for themselves. Often times, the men will cook together as a group to make things easier. The local grocery store can be found within walking distance.
Rules and Regulations
Although ACC is based on Christian principles, residents are not required to adhere to this spiritual orientation. The client’s sense of spirituality can also be facilitated through ACC’s 12-step immersion. ACC provides a solid support system with counselors available to residents along with an assigned accountability partner. The accountability partner is a more experienced house member who acts as a peer counselor, checking in with the client on a daily basis.
Each resident must be drug and alcohol free, must demonstrate a willingness to stay sober by actively working with an accountability partner and must be self- supporting. During the day, clients leave to attend jobs or school. Active participation in the house is a must, which means that each resident must attend two in-house recovery meetings a week. Along with the house meetings, each resident is required to attend three outside AA/NA meetings per week. Since there is zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs clients must pass random drug screenings as a measure of compliance.
In order to reserve a bed at ACC, prospective residents are required to make a $100 deposit that will be returned after 90-day commitment. Those who are asked to leave because of a relapse or choose to leave before the 90 days will forfeit their deposit.
While this sober living environment may not be a good fit for men who are uncomfortable with faith-based recovery, residents at ACC are offered fellowship and personal assistance which helps to create accountability and a sense of community. Overall, the program presents newly sober individuals with the opportunity to build skills and thrive in society.
