Acadia: Yarmouth Comprehensive Treatment Center Review
For 20 years, Yarmouth Comprehensive Treatment Center has provided outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts. It currently offers treatment plans using methadone and Suboxone and requires clients to attend group and individual therapy while in treatment.
The clinic is located in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, just east of Cape Cod, and a short distance from the Old Town House Road Park. Yarmouth CTC is a member of the Acadia treatment network, an international group of mental and behavioral health facilities with a number of outpatient and residential facilities throughout the United States and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
After clients have an initial intake session, they and the treatment team decide which course of MAT best suits their recovery needs: methadone or Suboxone. Clients then attend four orientation sessions to learn HIV prevention and the policies of the clinic.
Once clients begin receiving doses, they must attend group or individual therapy at least once a week. At each 90-day increment of treatment, they meet with their primary counselor to adjust their treatment plan according to their goals and progress. After 90 days of successful treatment, clients can apply for take-home doses of their medication.
Therapy uses CBT and groups address relapse prevention, anger management and health and wellness. Gender-specific groups are available for both men and women.
Yarmouth’s treatment team is made up of physicians, nurses and Master’s level therapists including MFTs and LSWs, and CADACs. Counselors and therapists address co-occurring disorders in individual and group sessions but refer clients in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support to a mental health clinic adjacent to the Yarmouth facility. Yarmouth CTC helps connect clients with peer support meetings (such as NA) in the community upon request.
Yarmouth CTC hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set timeline.

Yarmouth CTC hosts a parenting skills groups each week and encourages clients to bring loved ones to their individual therapy for family counseling.
