Lebanon PennsylvaniaAcadia: White Deer Run New Perspectives Review

White Deer Run’s New Perspectives facility provides outpatient substance abuse treatment in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, 30 miles east of Harrisburg. As a member of the White Deer Run treatment network, New Perspectives has served the residents of Pennsylvania for over 10 years.

Under the Acadia Healthcare umbrella, White Deer Run facilities are included among an expansive international group of behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.

Until two years ago, New Perspectives was housed on the campus of White Deer Run’s Lebanon residential treatment facility. It moved to its current location, on a quaint block of downtown Lebanon, two years ago.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients are enrolled in either the standard outpatient track or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Standard outpatient clients attend group therapy once a week and individual therapy once every other week, for an average length of eight weeks. Standard outpatient groups meet on Thursday mornings and Wednesday afternoons and evenings.

IOP clients attend group therapy three times a week and have individual therapy once a week. IOP groups are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with both daytime and evening groups available. The average length of IOP treatment is 10 weeks, and clients can step down into the standard outpatient program as their recovery progresses.

Groups have a maximum of 15 participants and use the 12-step framework, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The treatment team primarily consists of CADC addiction counselors. While counselors address co-occurring disorders in sessions, they refer clients to nearby mental health clinics for comprehensive dual diagnosis support.

Group therapy topics include stress management, sober socializing, criminal thinking and creating a values system. Women’s gender-specific groups are available, and New Perspectives is in the process of creating a group for Spanish speakers. Clients are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings each week.

Extras

New Perspectives hosts a weekly Alumni Group for aftercare. The White Deer Run treatment network also regularly holds a variety of alumni get-togethers throughout Pennsylvania.

In Summary

White Deer Run New Perspectives provides two levels of outpatient treatment, both of which teach clients how to use the 12-step framework, manage triggers and build sober social support networks. With daytime and evening groups and the ability to step down session frequency, New Perspectives might be a strong choice for those who desire to keep up with family and work responsibilities while committing to treatment.
