New Castle PennsylvaniaAcadia: White Deer Run New Castle Review

White Deer Run New Castle provides outpatient substance abuse treatment in New Castle, Pennsylvania, a small city in the West-Central region of the state just 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. Located in the center of the city between Neshannock Creek and the Shenango River, the facility offers treatment at both the standard and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels. As a member of the White Deer Run treatment network, the New Castle facility has served the residents of southern Pennsylvania for seven years.

Under the Acadia Healthcare umbrella, the White Deer Run group is included among an expansive international group of behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients are enrolled in either the standard outpatient or IOP track. Standard outpatient clients attend group therapy once or twice a week for up to four hours. IOP clients attend group therapy three times each week for a total of nine hours of treatment. All clients are scheduled for individual therapy as-needed.

Most clients complete their treatment plans in two to four months, and clients can step down to the standard outpatient program from the IOP as they progress in recovery. Standard outpatient groups meet Tuesdays from 5 to 7 pm, Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 pm and 3 to 5 pm and Thursdays from 5 to 7 pm. IOP groups meet Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 12 pm, 12 to 3 pm and 3 to 6 pm. New Castle also offers a gender-specific women’s group Mondays from 9 am to 12 pm.

Treatment at New Castle uses Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), CBT,  Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the 12-step framework. IOP clients have an additional curriculum that includes psycho-educational groups that explore relationship skills, changing criminal thinking, reducing stress and building a values system. All clients are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings each week.

The treatment team primarily consists of CADC addiction counselors. While counselors address co-occurring disorders in group and individual therapy, referrals are given to nearby mental health clinics for more comprehensive dual diagnosis support.

Extras

Clients may be invited to bring family members to individual therapy if their counselors think it would be beneficial. As clients near the end of their treatment plan, they work with their primary counselor to create an aftercare plan likely to include on-going individual therapy and peer support meetings such as NA/AA or SMART Recovery. The White Deer Run treatment network regularly holds a variety of alumni gatherings throughout Pennsylvania.

In Summary

White Deer Run New Castle provides two levels of outpatient treatment with several daytime and evening therapy groups available each week. Using a range of therapeutic models including evidence-based methods and the 12-steps, credentialed counselors teach clients how to integrate recovery into their daily lives, making them likely to leave treatment with improved relationship skills and problem-solving skills. With its robust and flexible group schedule, White Deer Run New Castle might be a strong choice for those desiring to keep up with work and family responsibilities while tackling their addiction.
