Acadia: White Deer Run Lehigh Review
White Deer Run Lehigh provides detox and residential substance abuse treatment in Bethlehem—a small town in Lehigh County in Eastern Pennsylvania. White Deer Run Lehigh opened its doors in 2013 as a branch of the White Deer Run network of facilities spread throughout the state. White Deer Run is also a member of the larger Acadia treatment network, an international group of behavioral health and addiction treatment facilities throughout the US and United Kingdom. The Lehigh location specializes in providing residential treatment with a strong dual diagnosis support component.
Accommodations and Food
The facility was renovated before opening its doors in 2013 and is situated in a verdant area of the Lehigh Valley. Men and women occupy opposite ends of the 31-bed facility, and each resident shares a room with one roommate.
The grounds feature a volleyball net and basketball court, and staff members take residents on nature walks several times a week. The facility employs a cook who serves standard American fare in the dining room with additional snacks served in the evenings. Residents are permitted caffeine in the mornings and decaffeinated drinks are available in the afternoons and evenings.
TV is allowed at designated times in the evenings and weekends, and residents can use the house phones to call home three times each week. Personal computers and cell phones are not permitted.
Treatment and Staff
Residents who arrive in need of detox stay in the seven-bed detox unit for five to seven days. The average stay in residential treatment is 28 days. Residents begin each day with meditation, chore assignments and a community meeting. Days are then spent in group therapy. Residents also have individual therapy twice each week and family therapy—if they choose—once a week. In the evenings, clients complete treatment assignments and attend a weekly on-site 12-step meeting or are transported to a community 12-step meeting. Each day concludes with another community meeting.
The treatment team includes Master’s-level therapists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants and addiction counselors. Therapy uses DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), REBT and Trauma-Informed-Care (TIC).
Extras
Family visitation hours are on Sundays from 1 to 4 pm. For aftercare, the treatment team refers clients to outpatient facilities that meet their treatment and geographic needs. The White Deer Run treatment network regularly holds a variety of alumni get-togethers throughout Pennsylvania to create a support system for lasting recovery.
