Acadia: Wheeling Comprehensive Treatment Center Review
For over five years, Wheeling Comprehensive Treatment Center has offered outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts in Triadelphia, West Virginia. It currently offers treatment plans using methadone, Subutex, Suboxone and Vivitrol. Wheeling CTC also requires clients to attend group and individual therapy while in treatment.
Wheeling CTC is located near The Highlands, one of the largest retail centers in West Virginia’s Northern panhandle. The clinic is a member of the Acadia treatment network, an international group of mental and behavioral health facilities which operates a number of outpatient and residential programs throughout the United States and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
After clients are assessed, they and the treatment team decide which course of MAT they’re best-suited for: methadone or Subutex or Suboxone. Clients can receive Vivitrol injections by court order or if they’ve been unsuccessful with other forms of MAT.
During their first 90 days of treatment, clients must attend group therapy for a minimum of 12 hours each month (usually three sessions each week) and individual therapy at least eight hours each month. After 90 days of successful treatment, they may reduce therapy frequency and apply for take-home doses of their medication.
Therapy uses CBT, the Matrix Model and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). Groups address anxiety, relationships, relapse prevention and health and wellness. The treatment team is made up of physicians, nurses, Master’s-level therapists and CADCs. Counselors address co-occurring disorders in individual and group therapy but refer clients in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support to nearby mental health clinics. Wheeling CTC encourages clients to attend peer support meetings (such as NA) and helps clients locate meetings in the area.
Wheeling CTC hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set timeline.
Extras
Wheeling CTC also provides a weekly parenting skills class and a family support group.
In Summary
Wheeling Comprehensive Treatment Center offers residents of Northern West Virginia four different MAT options determined by their acuity and recovery needs. In addition, clients are required to commit significantly to group and individual evidence-based therapy in the initial phases of treatment. This ensures that clients learn the coping skills and aspects of addiction to make informed choices in recovery. By emphasizing the importance of physical, emotional and mental recovery, clients are given a rounded experience preparing them for lasting recovery.
