This treatment is available to adults who are 18 and older struggling with opioid related issues.
Treatment and Staff
A staff member guides incoming clients through the admissions process at Acadia’s Western Michigan facility. During intake, individuals submit to a drug screen, TB test, full physical and pregnancy test if applicable. One requirement is that all incoming clientele have to come in for the assessment during withdrawal, and having not used for at least 20 hours. Additionally, clients who qualify for treatment must have a history of abusing opioids for at least a year.
The assessment stage lasts anywhere between four and six hours, and at the end a treatment plan is introduced to clients that includes the medication method they will receive. One exception to the withdrawal rule applies to pregnant women or those who are referred from a detox facility.
The main forms of MAT at this facility are Methadone, Suboxone and Subutex. At the onset of treatment. clients receive their medication in order to stabilize and then to wean themselves off completely. It’s worth mentioning, in some cases, staff will alter the form of medication during treatment.
There are weekly individual sessions at the facility. In addition clients attend group therapy on a weekly basis as well. These sessions often explore common issues that addicts struggling with opioids share. This includes past traumas and co-occurring disorders. Groups also offer psychoeducation. Acadia Western Michigan introduces clients to the philosophies of 12-step programs. Further, they receive the resources of community meeting information.
The treatment team at this facility consists of medical doctors, nurses, and counselors who specialize in addiction.
Acadia’s Western Michigan facility offers a comprehensive approach and a flexible treatment plan. Throughout their time in this program, participants can expect weekly therapy that aims to address the underlying issues that led to the need to use drugs and alcohol. Above all, clients leave treatment on their own time, armed with a number of valuable life and coping skills.
