Acadia: West Milwaukee Comprehensive Treatment Center Review
For over 10 years, West Milwaukee Comprehensive Treatment Center has offered outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts. Currently, MAT is limited to methadone doses, but this is combined with basic outpatient therapeutic services in the form of group and individual therapy. The facility is located between the West Allis and Miller Park neighborhoods of West Milwaukee.
West Milwaukee CTC is a member of the Acadia treatment network, an international mental and behavioral health facilities providing outpatient and residential treatment throughout the United States and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
After clients are assessed, they determine their methadone doses and recovery goals with a counselor. Group therapy is optional, but clients are encouraged to attend at least one group a week. Clients meet with their counselor each week during their dosing visits. After 90 days of successful treatment, clients may apply for take-home doses of their medication.
Therapy uses CBT and group topics include Early Recovery, Relapse Prevention and Motivation to Change. There is also a gender-specific group for women.
West Milwaukee’s treatment team is made up of physicians, nurses, LADCs and CADCs. Many counselors are dually-certified in addiction and mental health and can address co-occurring disorders in individual and group therapy. However, clients with a mental health diagnosis in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support are referred to nearby mental health clinics. West Milwaukee CTC encourages clients to attend peer support meetings such as NA and other 12-step programs.
West Milwaukee CTC hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line.
Extras
Clients may bring their family members to individual therapy if they and their treatment team consider it beneficial. West Milwaukee CTC is also exploring developing an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for clients who need more intensive therapeutic support.
