Since 1993, Volunteer Comprehensive Treatment Center has offered outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts in Chattanooga, a large city in Southeastern Tennessee. It currently offers treatment plans using methadone, Subutex, Suboxone. Volunteer CTC also requires clients to attend group and individual therapy while in treatment.
The clinic is located near Montague Park and is a member of the Acadia treatment network, an international group of mental and behavioral health facilities which operates a number of outpatient and residential programs throughout the United States and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
After clients are assessed, they and the treatment team decide which course of MAT they’re best-suited for: methadone, Subutex or Suboxone. During their first 30 days of treatment, clients must attend either group or individual therapy twice each week. After 30 days, the client’s counselor adjusts the treatment plan based on the client’s progress and recovery goals. Clients can also begin the process of applying for take-home doses of their medication.
Therapy uses CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Groups address grief and loss, relationships, relapse prevention and health and wellness. Volunteer CTC’s treatment team is made up of physicians, nurses and CADCs and is overseen by LPCs. Counselors address co-occurring disorders in individual and group sessions, but refer clients in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support to nearby mental health clinics. Volunteer CTC encourages clients to attend peer support meetings (such as NA), and it also has a patient advocate who helps clients locate peer support meetings in the community.
Volunteer CTC hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line.
Volunteer CTC also provides life-skills groups that teach clients budgeting and resume writing.
Volunteer Comprehensive Treatment Center provides several MAT options for opioid addicts. In addition, it offers multiple processing groups and life skills groups each week, ensuring that clients learn the emotional and practical skills to achieve their goals in recovery.
