Nashville TennesseeAcadia: Village Behavioral Health Review

Village Behavioral Health is a residential treatment facility for adolescents located in Nashville, Tennessee. Village Behavioral Health treats substance abuse and mental health as well as behavioral disorders.

Village Behavioral Health has been in operation for over 20 years and recently joined the Acadia provider network, an international network of mental and behavioral health facilities providing outpatient and residential treatment throughout the United States and United Kingdom.

Accommodations and Food

Village Behavioral Health occupies a rural campus in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Residents live in cabins in the wooded enclave, with most cabins housing 12 residents and one to two adults for supervision. The campus has a cafeteria where all residents eat their meals. The grounds feature a vegetable garden and clients are encouraged to participate in its care and help the kitchen staff use its produce.

The campus has an exercise room and multiple study and recreation areas. Personal computers and cell phones are not permitted, but staff members coordinate residents’ calls home from the facility phones.

Treatment and Staff

Most youth stay at Village Behavioral Health two to three months. While enrolled, they attend the on-site accredited school. During the day, group therapy is interspersed with studies. Additionally, residents meet with primary therapists at least once a week for individual therapy. The treatment team includes MSWs, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and behavioral health technicians.

Substance abuse treatment is CBT-based and therapists also use the 12-step framework. Experiential therapy is also a primary component of treatment at VBH and residents participate in a ROPES course and equine therapy. Village Behavioral Health specializes in treating youth with co-occurring disorders, so all clients are sure to receive comprehensive dual diagnosis support.

The treatment team knows that each child’s treatment plan must be customized to address their particular family dynamic. To that end, each family receives “therapeutic assignments” in lieu of regular visiting times. Therapeutic assignments can include phone calls, visits home and therapy homework, all designed to help the family and residents heal differences and learn to manage the resident’s addiction, mental health or behavioral challenges.

Extras

The staff prepare movie nights and on-campus games and sporting events for weekend recreation activities. For aftercare, the treatment team helps families locate therapists in their area with whom to continue treatment.

In Summary

For over 20 years, Village Behavioral Health has provided substance abuse and mental health treatment to teens. With a fully accredited on-site school and comprehensive mental health treatment team, Village Behavioral Health may be a promising option for teens whose substance abuse is impacted by academic and mental health challenges.
