Acadia: Taunton Comprehensive Treatment Center Review
For seven years, Taunton Comprehensive Treatment Center has offered outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts. It currently offers treatment using methadone, Subutex, and Suboxone and requires clients to attend both group and individual therapy while in treatment.
Taunton a small city located 40 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts, and the clinic is located a few blocks from the Taunton Green. Taunton CTC is a member of the Acadia treatment network, which operates a number of outpatient and residential facilities throughout the United States and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
After clients have an initial intake session, they and the treatment team decide which course of MAT they’re best-suited for: methadone or Subutex or Suboxone. Clients then attend a treatment planning session and orientation session to learn the policies of the clinic. Once they begin receiving doses, clients must attend group therapy at least once a week and have an individual session at least once every three months. At each 90-day increment of treatment, they meet with their primary counselor to adjust their treatment plan according to their goals and progress. After 90 days of successful treatment, clients can apply for take-home doses of their medication.
Therapy uses CBT , Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). Over 60 groups are held each month, and they address relapse prevention, relationships, and health and wellness. Gender-specific groups are available for men and women.
Taunton’s treatment team is made up of physicians, nurses and CADCs. Counselors address co-occurring disorders in individual and group therapy but refer clients in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support to nearby mental health clinics. Taunton CTC helps clients who’d like to attend peer support meetings such as NA locate meetings in the community.
Taunton CTC hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set timeline.
Extras
Taunton CTC hosts two parenting skills groups each week and is developing a group for LGBTQ clients. Additionally, referrals for more intensive treatment programs as well as financial and employment support are available upon request.
