Acadia: Optima Specialty Hospital Review
Optima Specialty Hospital provides behavioral health care in Lafeyette, Louisiana, a large city in the Southwestern region of the state. For over 10 years, Optima has provided outpatient substance abuse treatment through its Visions program, a multi-track program which offers care at the Partial-Hospitalization Program (PHP) level and its Recovery program, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Optima also provides inpatient and outpatient programs for mental health treatment and provides comprehensive dual diagnosis support in its substance abuse treatment tracks.
Optima is a member of the Acadia provider network, an international mental and behavioral health group which operates a number of outpatient and residential treatment facilities throughout the US and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
Clients usually complete their treatment plans in the PHP and IOP in four to eight weeks and often step down from the PHP to the IOP as they progress in treatment. In the PHP, clients attend group therapy for six hours a day Monday through Friday. In the IOP, clients also attend group therapy for six hours a day, three days per week. Individual therapy is scheduled as-needed.
Therapy uses CBT, DBT and the 12-step framework. Groups explore such topics as relapse prevention, the disease of addiction and anger management. Clients are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings outside of treatment, the frequency decided in their customized treatment plan.
Clients with co-occurring disorders also have individual therapy and medication management with a psychiatrist who visits the facility twice each week. In addition to the psychiatrist, the treatment team at Optima includes Master’s-level therapists such as LCSWs and LPCs, CADCs and nurse practitioners.

Clients can request family therapy if their loved ones want to learn more about recovery. Lunch is served each day, and transportation services are available.
