Chandler ArizonaAcadia: Oasis Behavioral Health Residential Review

Oasis Behavioral Health is a treatment facility located in Chandler, Arizona that was founded in 1987 by a young entrepreneur and his wife. Dedicated to creating a treatment program for youth struggling with mental health and chemical dependency, the Oasis Behavioral Health program has evolved to also include services for adults. With outpatient and acute mental health programs, Oasis also provides residential treatment for adolescents between the ages of 11 and 17 who have not responded to short-term interventions.

As a member of the Acadia Healthcare network, Oasis Behavioral Health is just one of many behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.

Accommodations and Food

There are two separate gender-specific housing units on the Oasis Behavioral Health campus. Clients live and receive treatment under the same roof, housed two per room with a shared bathroom. Accommodations are similar to a dormitory. There are separate areas for downtime and recreational activities. Twin beds and bedding are provided for each individual and toiletries and extras must be brought in. Thorough searches are conducted of all personal belongings to ensure the safety of all residents.

While boys and girls are accommodated in separate units, they but do recreational activities together. Each building is two stories with the adult acute psychiatric unit upstairs and the adolescent residential downstairs.

There is an outdoor area as well as a basketball court to be used during approved hours. Food at Oasis Behavioral Health is served cafeteria-style three times a day, with healthy and comfort foods available. Special dietary restrictions are accommodated. Caffeine consumption is limited and no smoking is allowed for minors.

Treatment and Staff

Oasis Behavioral Health employs a wide range of treatment approaches in their residential treatment program. Using CBT techniques, staff incorporates the Living in Balance program to treat chemical dependency, a program that uses psychoeducation to help educate clients of the addiction process, relapse prevention techniques and more. Treatment typically lasts 30 days.

Clients attend group therapy five times a week, several times per day. In addition to groups, clients also attend individual therapy as often as once per week. Support for clients on every level is offered through this holistic treatment approach program.

A team of CADCs assist clients during treatment, leading role-play, workbook exercises and relaxation techniques during sessions. Clients work to develop daily living tools, coping skills and mindfulness through these therapeutic techniques. An oral exam is also conducted and must be passed in order to complete the program.

In addition to the Living in Balance curriculum, clients must attend 12-step meetings in order to complete the program. Sponsorship and working the steps is required as is family involvement. Communication with the family unit is maintained by the primary counselor and family sessions are scheduled bi-weekly.

Extras

In addition to therapeutic activities, clients are kept active with fitness and recreational outlets. The facility has a basketball court on property and there are recreational therapists who lead art therapy and skill-building activities. These recreational and experiential methods help to build mutual support and cohesiveness between clients and their peers.

In Summary

Oasis Behavioral Health offers a continuum of care that includes both residential and outpatient services for adults and adolescents. Support is available for those struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health issues, with tracks also well-suited for those struggling with just one or the other. The adolescent residential program provides youth between the ages of 11 and 17 with services tailored to their unique needs, supporting young people as they begin their recovery journey. By incorporating evidence-based, experiential and recreational therapies, residents are sure to address the emotional, mental and physical aspects of addiction and recovery.
