Millcreek of Pontotoc Therapeutic Day School Review
The therapeutic day school through Millcreek of Pontotoc is for adolescents between the ages of six and 20. The students have typically dealt with a number of behavioral or mental health issues that have compromised their success in traditional school environments. This program, which is under the umbrella of the Acadia Healthcare network, incorporates education and therapeutic elements along with special education. Participants can also expect plenty of personalized attention since there is a small student-to-teacher ratio. It’s worth mentioning, this is a fully accredited program operated by the Mississippi Department of Education.
Treatment and Staff
There are five separate school locations of the day school that are operated through Acadia. All of these locations have age appropriate schooling that runs five days a week from 8 am to 2:30 pm.
Individual sessions are held for 30 minutes twice a week. During these sessions clients discuss their treatment goals with their therapist and work on interpersonal skills. During the two group sessions per week, clients cover a wide array of topics. This includes handling emotions, bullying, aggressions and peer pressure. The groups are split up to address clients with specific needs.
Therapeutic approaches are based on CBT and include DBT, interpersonal therapy, and relational therapy. There are also some elements of substance abuse treatment if necessary. This includes psychoeducation and therapeutic interventions. Medication management is also a part of treatment and is monitored regularly.
The staff of the therapeutic day school includes a multidisciplinary team of clinicians who specialize in emotional and behavioral disturbances in adolescents. They include psychiatrists, psychologists, LPCs, LCSWs, and psychiatric nurses. There are also specialized teaching staff who run the educational side of the program.

Transportation can be provided, and some meals are served on campus.
Family therapy is required at least once a month, through additional sessions are available. During the first month in the program, staff meets with the family members twice to discuss their treatment plan and initial program. After that, there are monthly staffing sessions for the duration of their treatment program.

This program aims to not only provide students with a safe and supportive environment, but also to offer a program that targets their unique and specific education and emotional needs. The clients are consistently engaged and work on their personal treatment goals while learning how to manage in a community setting. Millcreek of Pontotoc is an excellent resource for northern Mississippi families.
