Acadia: MeadowWood Behavioral Health Review
For over 10 years, MeadowWood Behavioral Health has provided residential and outpatient treatment for psychiatric and behavioral disorders and substance abuse. Located on an 11-acre campus in New Castle, Delaware, MeadowWood is just south of Wilmington and also serves the residents of New Jersey and Maryland. Clients seeking substance abuse treatment may be admitted to its inpatient detox unit and/or attend its outpatient Partial-Hospitalization Program (PHP) for co-occurring disorders.
MeadowWood’s mission is to provide “compassionate and comprehensive behavioral healthcare services to adolescents, adults and seniors.” Treatment aims to treat the family as a whole, with special attention to co-occurring psychiatric disorders and addiction. MeadowWood is a member of the Acadia provider network, which operates a number of outpatient and residential treatment facilities throughout the US and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
Prospective clients have a full biopsychosocial assessment and are then admitted to detox or the PHP. Detox usually lasts three to seven days, during which time clients are encouraged to participate in 12-step meetings as well as recreational and group therapy, if their health permits.
PHP clients attend group therapy and psychoeducation classes from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Friday. An individual meeting with a psychiatrist is also scheduled each day. Most clients complete their PHP treatment plans in two weeks.
The treatment team includes physicians, psychiatrists, LPNs, MSWs and CADCs. Both the detox program and PHP focus on dual diagnosis support. Clients can also receive medication management for their mental health diagnosis. Groups use CBT among other evidence-based modalities to help clients learn coping skills and self-expression. MeadowWood encourages clients to build their support system by attending 12-step meetings outside of treatment hours. Clients can also attend on-site 12-step meetings each Friday.
Extras
MeadowWood encourages clients and their families to participate in family therapy. It also facilitates treatment by arranging transportation services for clients who need help traveling to and from treatment. For aftercare, MeadowWood’s treatment team helps clients find one-on-one counseling and sober support meetings such at AA/NA, SMART Recovery or Celebrate Recovery.
