Lakeland Behavioral Health Hospital Older Adult Review
Acadia Healthcare’s Lakeland Behavioral Health Hospital is a psychiatric hospital and mental health treatment facility located in Springfield, Missouri. Treatment programs at this facility include an adolescent inpatient and residential track, along with an older adult treatment program. Lakeland Behavioral Health Hospital’s older adult program, which is known as HOPE, treats adults who are 60 and older, and struggling with acute mental illness. The individualized inpatient care is customized to accommodate each of the client’s specific needs using evidence-based approaches that are age appropriate.
Accommodations and Food
The hospital has 206 beds in total but 104 are dedicated to the older adult wing of the facility. Clients sleep in shared rooms with other clients, and some of the rooms have en suite bathrooms. There are nightstands, dressers and a small seating area in the rooms.
Clients have access to the campus swimming pool and workout area. There is also a gymnasium on site (with a basketball court) where group recreational takes place.
Clients eat all their meals at the cafeteria, however, the older adult clients may eat in their rooms occasionally. Dietary restrictions are honored, and there are healthy snack options available. The staff dietitian arranges the menus.
Treatment and Staff
At the onset of treatment, clients undergo a very thorough physical and psychological evaluation. From there a personalized treatment plan is presented to the client and their family members. Family involvement and participation in the client’s treatment experience is imperative to their success.
Some elements of the older adult programming include stress reduction therapy, exercise, medication education and management, life skills training, coping skills, and a variety of expressive therapies including music and art.
There are group therapy sessions set throughout the day. There are also weekly individual sessions if needed. Treatment utilizes CBT, DBT and mindfulness approaches.
The multidisciplinary team of therapists and clinicians includes psychologists, psychiatrists, pharmacists, LCSWs, psychiatric nurses, recreational therapists and nutritionists.
Extras
Visitation hours are every day between 9 am and 6 pm but visits are limited to one hour per day. It’s also worth noting, visitation needs to be arranged through staff beforehand. Phones are not allowed on the wards but clients are able to use the shared floor phone for a few hours per day.
Clients plan their discharge plan and aftercare with the staff throughout their stay. Aftercare services at the facility include continued follow up sessions.
