Haverhill Pavilion Older Adult Program Review
Haverhill Pavilion is a Massachusetts based facility that’s part of the larger Acadia Healthcare network. It offers adults and older adults inpatient care. The older adult track is for men and women who are 50 and above, struggling with a number of cognitive, behavioral and emotional issues. Clients can expect individualized programming that is sensitive to their age and needs, along with evidence-based treatment approaches and medication management.
Accommodations and Food
Haverhill Pavilion is a private, free standing hospital with 71 beds in total. There are 21 beds assigned to the older adult clients. The units are divided by age group and separated into three buildings on campus. The older adult housing facility has double occupancy bedrooms fitted with hospital beds that have on-call access to staff around the clock.
The campus features outdoor recreation spaces, sensory rooms, an on-site pharmacy, and an enclosed courtyard.
The kitchen staff prepares three meals per day, and clients can eat in the cafeteria or on their units. The meals are balanced nutritionally. A staff dietitian designs all the menus.
Treatment and Staff
As with the adult program at this facility, the older adult track is a short term treatment meant for stabilization before either returning home or to a step-down option. The typical length of stay in between five and seven days. Clients are assessed at the beginning of treatment, and from there a program plan is implemented.
Throughout treatment clients receive a combination of medical evaluation and services, medication management, and individual and group therapy. Medical services may include basic lab work, EKG’s and X-rays. Participants can also expect recreation and leisure activities, wellness education, relapse prevention education, exercise and nutrition.
For geriatric clients with existing co-occurring disorders, there are educational services and treatment. Twelve-step support is available in addition to specialized group therapy sessions.
The multidisciplinary treatment team includes LCSWs, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, nurses and case managers.
Extras
Family therapy is scheduled on a regular basis throughout treatment.
Clients work with staff to put together a comprehensive aftercare plan that may include coordination to a step-down treatment in a residential or outpatient setting.
In Summary
One of the most unique elements of the geriatric program is that no two clients have the same experience in treatment. There are a number of support services fitting for this demographic too. A team of reliable and experienced caregivers facilitate all care. Older adults in this program receive comprehensive treatment planning and continued support for both themselves and their family.
