Acadia: Harbor Oaks Hospital Outpatient Review
For nearly 10 years, Harbor Oaks Hospital has been providing outpatient and residential treatment (including detox) to residents of Southeastern Michigan. Harbor Oaks is located in New Baltimore, a small town 40 miles north of Detroit on Lake St. Clair. Harbor Oaks is dually-licensed to treat adults and adolescents for mental health disorders as well as substance abuse. It offers outpatient substance abuse at the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels of care.
Harbor Oaks is a member of the Acadia provider network, which operates a number of treatment facilities throughout the United State and United Kingdom.
Treatment and Staff
Clients are given thorough assessments after which the clinical team determines if they meet the criteria for PHP or IOP levels of care. PHP clients attend group therapy each weekday from 9 am to 3 pm. They also have individual therapy as needed, usually once a week. Most clients complete their PHP treatment plan in four weeks.
IOP clients attend group therapy on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. Most IOP treatment plans also last four weeks. During this time, individual therapy is scheduled every other week. Clients can step down from the PHP to the IOP as their recovery stabilizes.
Daily groups address recovery issues, relapse prevention, goal setting and conflict resolution and each program has a family night when loved ones can attend sessions to learn about recovery. Clients are also required to attend at least two AA/NA meetings each week and obtain a sponsor.
The treatment team includes physicians, nurses and Master’s-level therapists such as LPCs, psychologists and MSWs. Clinicians are trained in treating co-occurring disorders and are able to provide medication management for mental health diagnoses. Therapy at Harbor Oaks uses Motivational Interviewing (MI), the 12-step framework, DBT and Hazelden’s CBT-based treatment curriculum.
Extras
Harbor Oaks provides additional family education and support groups each Saturday and Sunday. Transportation services can also be arranged for clients who have difficulty making it to treatment.
