Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital Adolescent Program Review
Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Acadia Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital is a full service psychiatric facility that offers treatment to adolescents, adults and geriatric clients. The adolescent track features a residential program that addresses a variety of mental health concerns. The clients can expect one on one and group therapy, and medication management. While in the program, clients learn life and social skills alongside undergoing evidence-based treatment approaches that focus on their strengths. Erlanger hospital supports The Jason Foundation, which is a program that works to bring awareness to adolescent mental illnesses, and specifically to end the youth suicide epidemic.
Accommodations and Food
The adolescent residential program at Erlanger offers a total of 18 beds. Boys and girls sleep in gender-specific bedrooms that are double occupancy. The rooms are very simply furnished with twin beds and nightstands. The bathrooms are in the hallways.
There are common areas throughout the facility, including a living room space with a TV, gym and basketball court.
The meals are prepared on site by kitchen staff. The menus are put together by the staff dietitian. Clients eat three meals a day in the cafeteria.
Treatment and Staff
The adolescent program treats clients up to the age of 18. Every aspect of this program provides age appropriate treatment options. The program addresses several issues that are common with adolescents, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, self harm behaviors, social issues and suicidal thoughts.
There are several group sessions per week. These groups work on building social skills, establishing positive peer relationships, setting healthy boundaries, and having clients learn how to support each other.
During the weekly individual sessions clients work with their primary therapist to set goals in treatment, and discuss their achievements and successes. Clients attend regular meetings with with a staff psychiatrist for medication management and to monitor their progress and effectiveness of medications.
Clients also work on anger management, impulse control, and psychoeducation classes.
The adolescent program staff includes LCSWs, case managers, psychiatrists, LPCs and nurses.
There is regular family therapy at the facility. Aftercare planning is included in every client’s treatment plan. This may entail continuing on to the outpatient level of care at the facility or receiving referrals to outside agencies.
The adolescent program at Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital offers a safe and caring environment for young people who are experiencing behavioral health issues and need help to cope. The program provides structure and step-down treatment options. Clients learn a series of life skills within a structured atmosphere and around the clock monitoring.
