Acadia East Wisconsin Review
Acadia East Wisconsin Comprehensive Treatment Centers offers opioid treatment using Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and counseling. There are three facilities in the area, Appleton, Green Bay and Sheboygan, all of which offer adults individualized, comprehensive care plans. These treatment facilities offer several different medications and therapeutic interventions with the client’s full recovery in mind.
Treatment and Staff
Each of the facilities have early morning hours for clients to receive their medications or go through the admissions process. Treatment is available to clients who are over the age of 18 and have a history of using opioids for over one year. Those who want to start the program at these facilities need to come to the assessment already in withdrawal for at least 20 hours. There are exceptions for pregnant women.
The initial assessment takes a few hours and includes a full medical exam, psychological assessment, social and family history and details about what to expect in the program. There are daily dosing schedules, and weekly group and individual therapy. Each of the facilities open very early in the morning, between 5:30and 6 am, and stop medications in the early afternoon.
Most clients don’t receive their medication on the very first day of the program. After the intake clients meet with the medical representative on site and discuss their personalized treatment plan. This consists of receiving one of the medications offered at the facilities. They are Methadone, Suboxone, Vivitrol and Subutex. There is an initial period where clients are becoming stabilized and over time they are eventually weaned off their meds. In some cases clients may switch their medications during their treatment plan.
During therapy clients discuss topics like relapse prevention, coping skills, setting boundaries, and dealing with cravings. Clients are also encouraged to receive additional support through their 12-step communities. Treatment approaches may include CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
In all three of the Wisconsin locations the staff includes physicians, nurses, and addiction counselors.
