Tukwila WashingtonAcadia: Cascade Behavioral Health Review

Cascade Behavioral Health is located in Tukwila, Washington, a suburb 10 miles south of Seattle. Cascade offers detox, residential and outpatient treatment for substance abuse, in addition to treatment for mental health disorders, behavioral and memory issues. Its residential program has been in operation for three years, and its outpatient program opened this past April.

Cascade’s medical director is Gregory Rudolf, M.D., one of a handful of addictionologists in Washington state. Cascade Behavioral Health is a member of the Acadia provider network, which operates a number of treatment facilities throughout the United State and United Kingdom.

Accommodations and Food

Cascade Behavioral Health is located on a leafy campus outside of Seattle. All residents have at least one roommate and rooms feature clean, modern décor. The facility cafeteria serves standard American fare and can accommodate allergies and preferences.

Residents can watch TV in the recreation room, though CBH limits TV time so clients are free to focus on their treatment activities and homework. After detox and an initial one-week stabilization phase, clients often go for walks on the scenic grounds for recreation.

Treatment and Staff

CBH treats up to 24 clients at a time. Clients in need of detox stay in the unit for five to seven days upon arrival, and most complete their treatment plan 14 to 21 days after that.

Residents spend each day in group therapy and psychoeducation classes that explore the disease of addiction, the process of recovery, handling triggers and developing coping skills. Clients also have individual therapy at least once a week. Therapy uses CBT, DBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and the Living in Balance curriculum. Clients are also encouraged to participate in 12-step meetings and CBH hosts three to four on-site each week.

CBH’s treatment team includes physicians, nurses, LADCs and Master’s-level therapists, all of whom are experienced in treating co-occurring disorders. CBH is licensed to provide therapy and medication management for mild and severe mental health disorders.

Extras

CBH also offers clients experiential and experimental treatments, including acupuncture, yoga and art therapy. Every Sunday there’s family group and family therapy as well as visiting hours. CBH is also in the process of adding gender-specific group therapy to its curriculum. For aftercare, clients may continue treatment in CBH’s outpatient program.

In Summary

While a relatively new addition to the Seattle-area recovery community, Cascade Behavioral Health has an experienced treatment team that is led by one of the area’s few addictionologists, Dr. Gregory Rudolf. Cascade Behavioral Health also treats a variety of mental health disorders, making it a strong option for those whose sobriety would benefit from comprehensive dual diagnosis support.
