Cartersville GeorgiaAcadia: Cartersville Comprehensive Treatment Center Review

Since 1997, the Cartersville Comprehensive Treatment Center has provided Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts in Cartersville, Georgia. Cartersville is a small city 40 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. Cartersville CTC offers treatment plans using methadone, Suboxone or Subutex and requires clients to participate in group and individual therapy while receiving their medication doses. Cartersville CTC is a member of the Acadia treatment network, which operates a number of outpatient and residential facilities throughout the United States and United Kingdom.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients and the Cartersville treatment team decide which course of MAT best suits their needs: methadone, Suboxone or Subutex. Clients then receive a dosing schedule which includes a plan for applying for take-home doses once the client has successfully participated in several weeks of treatment. After 30 days, clients can apply for one weekly take-home dose; after 90 days, they can apply for three weekly take-home doses.

Clients must attend group therapy three times upon first enrolling in treatment. The three groups orient clients to treatment, helping them understand the disease of addiction. Clients are also educated about HIV prevention and best practices for taking their addiction medication.

After the three initial sessions, clients are encouraged to continue to attend group therapy each week. Cartersville offers several groups which use Person-Centered therapy, CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Reality Therapy. Groups are led by addiction counselors and therapists, including CADCs and LPCs. Group topics include relapse prevention, living with co-occurring disorders and gender-specific men’s and women’s issues groups. Clients also meet with a counselor for individual therapy at least once a month.

Counselors address co-occurring disorders in both individual and group sessions, but refer clients in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support to nearby mental health facilities. Clients are also encouraged to attend peer support meetings while in treatment (such as 12-step) and Catersville also hosts a weekly Methadone Peer Support group on-site.

Cartersville hopes that all of its clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line.

Extras

Cartersville holds a monthly family education night for clients’ loved ones to learn about opiate addiction and treatment. After clients have completed MAT, they’re encouraged to schedule check-in or regular sessions with their primary counselor for aftercare.

In Summary

For nearly 20 years, Cartersville Comprehensive Treatment Center has provided MAT to opiate addicts in the Atlanta area. With a family education night, on-site peer support meetings and multiple therapy groups each week, Cartersville CTC goes beyond the typical MAT clinic’s duties to provide its clients with a web of support and education as they take their first steps in recovery.
