Absolute Control Transitional Counseling Center Review
Absolute Control Transitional Counseling Center offers outpatient and inpatient services in Southern California. The outpatient facility is located in Burbank while the sober living home for men is only a short distance away in Lakeview Terrace.
The Burbank location provides men and women with substance abuse treatment and mental health support through two different programs. These include an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a less intensive outpatient option which both include group and individual therapy as well as mandatory 12-step participation. Adult men interested in the sober living option are housed in a structured environment with weekly mandatory AA/NA meetings.
Treatment and Staff
Absolute’s outpatient programs begin with a thorough evaluation by an intake counselor to determine the proper level of care. In both treatment paths, clients are also assigned a counselor who they meet with for weekly individual sessions. Referrals to outside facilities for detox and inpatient treatment can be made at this time when necessary. Men have access to a sober living option and once enrolled they can choose to participate in outpatient services if interested.
At Absolute, clients attend group and individual therapy sessions as well as off-site 12-step meetings. Programs use evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT during group sessions, and clients have access to a psychologist who can provide referrals for medication management upon request. This is offered in conjunction with the weekly individual sessions used to evaluate a client’s progress. Aside from monitoring progress, clients can use individual sessions with their counselors to openly discuss personal issues more deeply and confidentially.
IOP and standard outpatient programs both require a minimum attendance of 90 days. The IOP meets Monday through Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and the standard outpatient track meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Mondays and Wednesdays, those in standard outpatient meet from 5 to 9 pm, joining IOP clients in sessions on Fridays from 10 am to 2 pm. Group sessions take up the first 90 minutes, with topics including psychoeducation, relapse prevention, goal setting, coping skills and communication skills. Clients get a 15 minute break before attending an hour long AA/NA meeting held within walking distance of the facility. The remaining hour and 15 minutes is spent completing basic homework assignments pertinent to that day’s group meeting and checking in with their counselors. Typically, about 45 minutes to an hour of that time is spent in individual sessions with counselors.
Absolute’s staff is made of up of LADCs and a psychologist who specializes in addiction.
Extras
Aside from outpatient treatment, there’s also a sober living option for men which offers accommodations for 14 residents in shared rooms. All men are required to abide by basic house rules which include attending four 12-step meetings a week, getting a sponsor and working the steps after two weeks in the house and completing daily chores.
