A.B. Counseling, Inc.The Basics

Located in Colorado, A.B. Counseling, Inc. (Alternative Behavioral Counseling) offers outpatient services for voluntary and court-ordered clients. Treatment consists of individual and group therapy sessions on a weekly basis. Treatment at A.B. Counseling also caters to those with a DUI/DWI, domestic violence charges and sex offenders. All programs use evidence-based modalities including CBT during therapy.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at A.B. Counseling is available to all clients 18 and over struggling with chemical dependency and mental health disorders. It begins with an initial intake with a clinician that gathers the necessary information to identify each client’s situation. After the assessment, clients work with a therapist to develop personalized treatment plans. Individual sessions are offered as a supplement to primary group therapy, with sessions typically lasting an hour, scheduled as needed.

A.B. Counseling offers a CBT group treatment track focused on strategies for self-improvement and change. The program consists of small groups with about 12 in each session. Groups include psycho-educational lectures and open discussions that teach how to manage stress, depression and anxiety. The program takes a year to complete and meets Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9 pm. Clients also have the option to meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. There are also two Saturday groups from 8:30 to 10:30 am and 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. On Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 pm, clients can attend a substance abuse group focused marijuana addiction.

Relapse prevention groups can also be implemented as part of treatment. Groups are held on Tuesdays from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Lastly, there is a male-specific Caring Dads parenting group held every Monday night from 6 to 7:30 pm for 13 weeks. These groups focus on developing communication, respect and support for relationships between fathers and children using CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Staff members at A.B. Counseling include an RN, LPCs, Master’s-level therapists and LCSWs.

Extras

Those suffering from trauma and PTSD are also offered trauma-healing groups which focus on coping skills, boundaries and healthy assertiveness, using the book Your Perfect Right for reference. This treatment plan requires clients to meet once a week for 18 weeks. Meetings are held on Mondays from 6 to 7:30 pm or 7:30 to 9 pm.

For DUI/DWI offenders, A.B. Counseling offers a Driving with Care course. It offers Level II Education and Level II Therapy services that impaired driving offenders are required to complete. There are also gender-specific domestic violence CBT groups available to offenders that follows the guidelines outlined in Colorado’s Domestic Violence Offenders Management Board.
