A New Perspective Counseling Centers Review
A New Perspective Counseling Center is an outpatient mental health facility offering therapeutic care for men and women struggling with addiction, substance abuse, mental health issues and anger management. Located in Sanford, Florida, A New Perspective treats clients using individual, family and couples counseling as well as educational classes. The credentialed staff help clients to develop the skills they need to live a healthy and balanced life.
While this program does not offer detox, residential or Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP), referrals can be made upon request.
Treatment and Staff
New Perspective offers the traditional range of counseling services with evidence based therapies used to help clients face their problems head-on. Depression, anxiety, anger and substance abuse are some of the common issues New Perspective clients struggle with. Clients undergo a thorough 60-to 90-minute intake assessment during which their history with substance abuse and current lifestyle (family, work, social life) are taken into account. From there, a treatment plan is developed.
Individual sessions typically occur once a week for 60 minutes at a time. In these sessions, clients are given the space they need to look closely at their issues and to develop management plans for change. By challenging negative thought patterns using techniques like CBT, each individual addresses their addiction or substance abuse along with any co-occurring health issues such as depression or anxiety. Clients requiring medication management are referred to an outside psychiatrist or physician.
New Perspective is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 9 pm with morning, afternoon and evening hours available for sessions. Clients are encouraged to attend several AA/NA meetings during their free time (though 12-step is not a required part of the program) and counselors are happy to provide referrals to local community meetings.
The staff consists of Master’s-level therapists, MFTs, CSWs, LCSWs and interns.
Extras
Like individual therapy, family and couple’s counseling are conducted in 60 minute sessions. Family members and spouses are given the opportunity to work on boundaries, communication and any other problems troubling their relationships.
New Perspective also has educational classes on both parenting and anger management. The parenting classes help parents improve relationships with their children by addressing topics such as discipline, parenting styles, encouragement and family dynamics. The class meets once a week for a total of seven weeks. The anger management class is 90 minutes in length, meeting once a week for a total of 12 weeks. Clients are given coping skills for dealing with anger, as well as relaxation methods and stress management tools.
Play therapy is available for children. During play sessions, a variety of fun and creative arts techniques are used to assist in helping children with emotional and behavioral issues.
In Summary
A New Perspective Counseling Center offers full-service counseling for mental and behavioral health as well as substance abuse issues. This may be a good option for those who need maintenance for their sobriety, or a less intensive level of care, as group sessions and detox are not available. Using evidence based therapies, clients can continue to live happily in sobriety.
