Carbondale ColoradoThe Basics

Located 30 miles south of Aspen, A New Path provides a sober living environment for men in Carbondale, Colorado. With the Rocky Mountains as the backdrop, ANP offers a systematic approach to help residents attain recovery goals and guide them down their own unique path to recovery.

Accommodations and Amenities

Striving to bridge the gap between addiction treatment and returning home, ANP’s three locations—Cleveland House, Defiance House and Mountain Sage House—come equipped with furnished single-occupancy bedrooms that accommodate four residents and one on-site manager. Bed linens are provided and each room has plenty of closet space. The homes’ two bathrooms are shared and feature large showers and granite counter tops. Towels are also provided.

The living room of the ANP homes are designed to be comfortable; with a fireplace, large sectional leather sofa and chairs. A flat screen TV with cable is available for residents to enjoy during their free time. Staff members help clients shop for groceries and cook healthy meals in the homes’ fully-functional kitchen, equipped with new appliances and utensils. Each house has backyard with scenic views where residents can BBQ and enjoy outdoor seating.

As part of the INSPIRED® Living Plan, clients are given an iPad to track their progress, treatment goals, finances and scheduling. Working with a case manager that monitors individual goals, residents learn effective time management, financial planning, self-care, nutrition and smart scheduling—tools for designing and maintaining their own balanced life with out the use of substances.

Clients are required to seek employment during their stay. The central location of all the houses provides a good amount of job opportunities within walking distance. There are also volunteer facilities and 12-step meetings close by as well.

Rules and Regulations

All potential residents go through an interview process to ensure ANP is a good fit for them. Only clients who can show they have a willingness to work diligently on their recovery and agree to participate in all activities are admitted. Residents work one-on-one with a case manager and sober coaches to help them get used to independent living and goal-oriented recovery. The INSPIRED® Living Plan last six months and is designed to help clients transition from their 90-day stay at one of the ANP homes to a more traditional living space with continued support from the staff.

Random drug and breathalyzer tests are performed regularly to enforce the strict abstinence policy. If a resident relapses during their stay, they will be evicted and referred to more intensive program in the area.

Participation in 12-step recovery is an important component at ANP and all clients  are required to attend a minimum of three meetings a week. Taking a service commitment, getting a sponsor and working the steps is also expected. Depending on a client’s program goals, they must attend at least one in-house workshop that teaches specific life skills like nutrition and cooking, DBT and 12-step education, mindfulness and meditation, adventures in sobriety and leadership; where residents meet local business owners and entrepreneurs.

Clients are required to at least look for a job or volunteer work while in residence and ANP will assist with resume building and job hunting skills. However, it should be noted that regardless of an employment schedule, all are expected to maintain their meeting service commitments. Residents are also required to keep the house clean by a weekly rotating set of chores. Curfew is midnight on Monday through Thursday and at 2 am on weekends.

Once clients are ready to transition out to independent living, they are encouraged to enroll in the aftercare program where, for 90 days at $5,900 a month, case managers and sober coaches check in on alumni at their homes, attend groups, workshops and ensure a smooth adjustment from sober living to real world living.

Extras

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of all Colorado has to offer; included staff-guided local adventures of skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, hot springs, white water rafting and rock climbing.

In Summary

ANP offers much more than a bed in a sober environment. Beyond the scenic and serene natural landscape, the program’s unique INSPIRED® Living Plan is designed for continued success and structured to fit individual recovery needs. Residents of this hands-on sober living will benefit from gaining tools and essential life skills to maintain long-term recovery.
