The Basics

Located 30 minutes northeast of Phoenix in Scottsdale, Arizona, A New Beginning is an outpatient treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with a range of eating disorders, alcohol and substance use disorders as well as co-occurring mental health conditions like depression, anxiety and trauma. Situated in the Scottsdale medical community of Ironwood Square Village, A New Beginning has a comprehensive Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient services customized to meet the unique needs of the individual client.

Founded in 1988 by Dr. Julie Anne, a licensed psychologist, the facility offers a multi-faceted care approach that integrates a number of therapeutic methods including individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based models, family-based therapy, holistic modalities, education and nutritional services. The 12-step recovery method and medication management are not components of the programming.

Treatment and Staff

A New Beginning specializes in providing treatment for an array of eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, emotional overeating as well as night eating syndrome, male eating disorders and exercise bulimia. In addition, the facility offers care for clients with mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, trauma and OCD as well as personal, marital and familial issues. Before beginning treatment, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment that helps the team design the most effective treatment plan tailored to the specific needs, goals and schedule of the individual. Due to the individualized nature of care the duration of treatment is difficult to pin down. However, following the initial assessment a therapist is able to outline the course of therapy, format a schedule and discuss rates.

Programming combines an array of therapeutic modalities including holistic measures, education and nutrition as well as evidence-based therapies like CBT, DBT and EMDR to treat trauma as a causal component of current conditions. Through individualized treatment programming, clients engage in individual and group therapy sessions, skill groups, individual coaching, meal support and intuitive movement programs like yoga. A New Beginning also offers a six-week program focused on overeating and binge eating as well as a completely customized and private four-week program that offers therapy four consecutive days a week.

A New Beginning employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of LMFTs, psychologists, addiction counselors, nutritionists and registered dietitians. For clients in need of medication management, the facility can refer a psychiatrist, primary care physician or psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Extras

A New Beginning recognizes the integral role that family plays in the success of a sustainable, long-term recovery. To this end, the facility offers family therapy to help clients and their families with communication, boundaries and affection.
