Located in Chicago, Illinois, A DUI Class, Inc. offers outpatient care for substance abuse. Though the facility offers specific treatment for DUI offenders, it also accepts many self-referred clients wanting to address their chemical dependency issues. Programs are offered at four different levels, ranging from 10 to 75 hours of treatment. While the 12 steps are mentioned, this is not a 12-step based program. Instead, clients are immersed in a variety of recovery methods including education and evidence-based therapies.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment is offered in four different tiers. Programs are available to both DUI and non-DUI offenders, using a mixture of education and therapy. Prior to beginning a program, each client undergoes a comprehensive assessment. While inpatient and detox services are not available, referrals can be made upon request.
The Level I minimal risk program includes 10 hours of driver risk education while Level II moderate risk includes the same as well as 12 hours of group therapy. Level II significant risk includes 10 hours of education but increases the therapy to 20 hours of group and individual therapy. Typically, individual therapy occurs once a week for an hour each session. Level III high risk includes 75 hours of treatment which again includes education, group and individual therapy. Group topics in all treatment tiers include relapse prevention, risk management, anger management, communication and coping skills. Evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT are used frequently. For those who wish to add more individual time, additional sessions can be added for $30 each.
While the 12 steps are mentioned in group therapy, they are not a major part of the programming. Clients are free to attend AA/NA meetings during their free time but they are not required as part of the curriculum. The staff consists of LADCs and group sizes range from five to 15 people at a time.
Extras
Staff members and programs are available in Ukrainian, Russian, Polish and Vietnamese. Spanish speaking counselors are also available, as are DUI assessments.
